11/8/24
It was an interesting week here at Woodlawn. Between the time change, the presidential election, our all-school musical assemblies, and regular school work, it has been an incredible week! I am so thankful to the students, staff, and community for the respect shown related to the election. I am going to say it again, I am very lucky to be the leader of this school in such an incredible district. We just have a few items for the blog this week.
Musical - Finding Nemo Jr.
Every school year, I am so proud of the work our students do on the musical. This year is no different. I was so proud of our students and the work they put in to make this production incredible. It was bright, fast-moving, funny, colorful, and sweet. Great job Woodlawn students! I am so proud of you. Thank you to Ms. Warkenthein, Mrs. Wesbecher, and Mr. Breezee for all your hard work with these incredible students.

Guiding Coalition of Interculturalism (GCI) is a learning community that reflects and connects the KCSD96 values of diversity and inclusion; aligns parents, educators, and students in cultural and educational experiences; and engages with a wide audience. This year our Bilingual Parent Advisory Council will merge with GCI to create a more cohesive group focused on cultural diversity, inclusion, and language support.

Finally, my 4 a.m. wake-up call is back. Last year, I reported numerous times, right here in this blog, that the town I live in backs up to an unincorporated town which I consider the Wild West. (coincidentally, the issue I deal with is directly west of my house) New neighbors moved in and soon after, a rooster was serenading me as only a rooster can, which in the Wild West, is allowed.
At 4 a.m….every single day. Since the lovely Mrs. Grana enjoys having a window open, and the rooster enjoys facing east, I am getting nature's extensive wake-up call with no snooze alarm. Daily. Day off, weekend, sick day, it doesn’t matter to my feathery friend. He does his thing. My wife sleeps right through it. (Her mom grew up on a farm so I’m guessing that it is in the genes to not wake up to a cackling maniac) I am not saying that it is driving me crazy, but I consider myself a fairly reasonable person and I lay there wishing bad things on this creature. I also live near a forest preserve and hear the sounds of nature all of the time. The rooster must have some sort of alliance with coyotes that they leave him alone. I envision some type of negotiation where eggs are involved. I also have to believe that a Mrs. Rooster is out there who could be telling him that the sun doesn’t come up for another 2 hours and to settle down. I wish that we still received a phone book so I could call a rooster exterminator or just throw that heavy book of yellow pages at him. I apologize if this is too negative, I need a nap. Thanks for listening.
Have a great weekend.
