Principal Blog 4/29/2022

Thank you to the families that had conversations with their children this week regarding appropriate school behavior.  Woodlawn will continue to reinforce expected behaviors and connect with families when those aren’t met.  The strong partnership between school and home truly makes a difference.

Spring is in the air, whether or not the weather cooperates!  Our teachers continue to design lessons around essential learning standards.  The materials taught currently is important for success next year.  Encourage your child to engage in activities after school that gets them up and moving.  The physical activity afterschool helps their mind focus during class time.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the Woodlawn Scholastic bowl team for coming in 1st place and bringing home a trophy at the regional competition!  Wish them luck as they head to the sectionals on Monday.

Parent Volunteers for Track Meet, May 7th

The PTO is running concessions for this year's District Track Meet on Saturday, May 7th from 8am - 12:30pm.  If you have a child participating, why not help out since you will be there anyways?  Or, come on out and support the Woodlawn track team and help.  Please head to MTK and sign up.

End of Day Timing

As we inch closer to the end of the year, we have more students staying after school wanting to be with friends.  To ensure proper supervision is provided, we’d like to highlight timing at the end of the day.

  • Our school day ends at 2:30 p.m.
  •  On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays there are study halls and clubs that run from 2:30 p.m. -3:15 p.m.
  • Band and orchestra students may have practice that ends at 3:15 on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Students can be picked-up by a parent/carpool by 3:30 or stay for the activity bus that arrives between 3:45-4:30.  If your child is not picked up by the time the activity bus arrives, they will head home on the activity bus.
  • If a student would like to attend a sporting event, they must be supervised by their own parent/guardian.

Incredible New Parent Resource

Please take a look at the HOME TO SCHOOL CONNECTIONS.  Here you will find additional optional resources to support your Early Childhood through 8th Grade student(s) at home .  Both technology and curricular resources are provided and we encourage you to explore this new tool!

Device Collection and Information

8th Grade iPad Collection

8th Grade iPad collection will happen on Wednesday, May 25th. Students will be expected to turn in their iPad (inside of the case), charging cable, charging brick, and Logitech Crayon.

Non-Returning 6th or 7th Grade Students

Any non-returning students in grades 6 and 7 will need to leave their iPad (inside of the case), charging cable, charging brick, and Logitech Crayon, with the building Tech Aide for collection.

Students in Grades K-7

Students in grades K-7 will keep their iPad and all peripherals over the summer unless they are not returning to D96 for the 22-23 school year.

Any non-returning students will need to leave their iPad (inside of the case), charging cable, charging brick, and Logitech Crayon, with the building Tech Aide for collection.

Families who exit out of D96 after the last day of school will need to return all of their technology to the District Office over the summer. Any device not returned will be placed in lost mode and will not function.

Over the summer, some apps and services will continue to work at the student’s 21-22 grade level. Apps and websites like Dreambox, Lexia, Typing Agent, (etc) will be available to use over the summer but are not guaranteed to work at all times. The technology department will only be supporting the use of these apps in ESY or Summer School.

As we get closer to August, we will roll-up student data and new services. Apps will also become available to them relative to their 22-23 grade level

Next week PTO, Greg, and myself (Michelle) will celebrate the Woodlawn staff during Staff Appreciation Week.  Consider having your child write a note to a current or former teacher!  There is no greater gift for educators than knowing they’ve positively impacted a student.
