Woodlawn Principal's Blog 4/1/22

4/1/22

I hope everyone had a relaxing Spring Break!  We are looking forward to our Spring Fling next Friday! Make sure you see the PTO blurb at the bottom of this week’s blog.

Congratulations Twin Groves and Woodlawn Chamber Orchestra

On Thursday, March 31st, Twin Groves and Woodlawn had a joint Chamber Orchestra Concert directed by Cara Anderson (Twin Groves) and Eileen Wronkiewicz (Woodlawn).

It was wonderful to hear the talented musicians from both of our D96 schools!

Wonderful job!

Attention parents of current 8th grade students-

Please be on the lookout for an email from myself or Mrs. Garlick on Monday, April 4th with end of the year and graduation information.

Cell Phones

Recently we have noticed an increase of cell phones out during the school day. The cell phones are causing a distraction to learning.

Cell phones should be securely locked in the students’ lockers from 7:43 AM-2:30 PM.

We are asking that all students have their cell phones silenced and locked in their lockers from 7:43 AM to 2:30 PM.

If a staff member sees a cell phone out, we will ask the student to lock it in their locker. If they do not comply, the phone will be taken and sent to the office until the end of the day. Students can collect their cell phones from the office at 2:30 PM.

Finally, I woke up this morning to a text from my brother-in-law.  He is the proud parent of 2 rambunctious boys ages 2 and 4.  The picture on the text showed a shattered flat screen t.v.  and my nephews with silly grins.  Unfortunately, this would be the 4th time this has happened, so it really didn’t surprise me.  Did I mention they were rambunctious? Before I could text my shock…a follow-up video revealed that I had been pranked…Happy April Fools Day!  This made me look up the origins of April Fools.  After going through the rabbit hole of information, I came to the conclusion that there is a lot of uncertainty of its origins, but the best quote I found was: “April 1 has come to represent a day of joy and comedy as we move out of the darkness of winter and into the spring”.

As the days get longer, make sure you get outside and take advantage of the warmth of spring….although it is not here yet!  Mother Nature seems to play the same prank every year!
