Parents, Twin Groves NEEDS YOUR HELP!!! Please click THIS LINK and take the 5Essentials Survey for Parents/Guardians.
Twin Groves would like to increase parent participation. Currently, Twin Groves is only at a participation rate of 6% for parents.

As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. Your participation will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide our improvement. Parent identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

The window to complete the survey closes on March 29th. Please see below for more information.
Thank you in advance!

What’s Happening at TG?
Spanish

6th-grade students are wrapping up trimester 3 with a mini-unit on the Spanish subject pronouns. These words will be so helpful when we start talking about more than just I and you, and when we start learning how to conjugate verbs! Our next unit is on describing ourselves and others using the verb ser (to be) with personality and physical adjectives.
7th-grade students are almost done with their food unit. They have worked on discussing their likes and dislikes and saying what they eat, drink, and share. We are finishing up their first scored interpersonal speaking assessment. Students had a 1 on 1 conversation with their teacher to discuss their food and drink preferences. Before we finish this unit we will work on present tense conjugation of er and ir ending verbs. This skill is very similar to when we learned how to conjugate ar ending verbs in the Fall. This week we also had the opportunity to learn from our Spanish content specialist, Mrs. Ramirez. She gave all 7th-grade Spanish students a presentation on her home country, Bolivia, and its common dishes. She taught students the recipe for a dish called Salteñas - Ask your student to tell you about it! ¡Muchas gracias a la Señora Ramirez por compartir con nosotros!
8th-grade students are working on part 2 of their house unit by discussing chores. Students will learn common verbs and vocabulary to discuss the daily tasks that need to be completed around the house. They will learn 2 grammar concepts: tener + que (to have to do something) and present progressive (to be currently doing something). Students will also continue to practice conjugating regular ar, er, and ir ending verbs in the present tense. We will wrap up both part 1 and part 2 of the house unit by creating a presentational video describing their ideal house.

Band
The band has had a very successful month. 85% of our students going to the contest received a Division 1 rating. The students worked hard and were rewarded for their efforts. We also had the
the largest number of band students in the contest, with over 55 entries. I was able to see almost all of the student performances and they did well and had fun.

We are now in the final two weeks of our busy winter season. We are getting ready for our “Music in our Schools Month Concerts” and the Large ensemble or Band Contest.
Here is the schedule of performances:
Thursday, March 7 @ 7:45 PM here at Twin Groves - Honor Band and Jazz Band Concert. Students should report to the band room at 7:15 PM.
Friday, March 8th: Honor Band goes to the Band Contest. Students need to be at school at 4:45 PM. The contest is at Park Campus in Round Lake. The Twin Groves performance time is at 6:45 PM sharp. You are welcome to come and support us.
Monday, March 11 @ 7:00 PM Concert Band and the 5th Grade Cadet Band: Concert Band students should arrive at 6:30 PM and be ready to play by 6:35 PM in their seats for the concert.

One final report on the KCSD96 Band festival on Friday February 2. We had an outstanding time with Mr. De Stefano and the six Masterclass teachers. The students welcomed about 70 5th Grade students to the school, played for them, and then had a master class with Mr. DeStefano and then a special class with their instrument specialist. It was a very successful night for performing,  teaching, and recruiting. The evening was sponsored by the Music Boosters of whom we are very grateful.

Orchestra
Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the IGSMA Solo/Ensemble contest on Saturday, February 10th! It was a wonderful day of performing and I am so proud of all of the students and their hard work!

We are wrapping up the end of Trimester 2! 6th Graders have been working on many new rhythms. 7th Graders were introduced to SmartMusic, which is a fantastic practice/assessment tool that students can use in class and at home. It provides feedback to students while they play. They are submitting their first assessment using SmartMusic this week! 8th Graders have been working on memorizing their 2 octave scales.

All grade levels are preparing for our upcoming “Music in Our Schools Month” Concert on Thursday, March 7th. 6-8 Orchestra and 6-8 Choirs will be performing at 6:30 pm. Please see my previously sent email for more details. It is going to be a fantastic performance!

6th Grade Dental Forms Needed
Dear Parents/Guardians of District 96 6th Grade Students:

Please note that your child’s completed dental examination is now due, per Illinois school law. The deadline for the dental examination is no later than May 15 of the current school year.  Proof of this required dental examination must have been completed within eighteen months prior to the May 15 deadline.
If you haven’t already done so, please make an appointment with your child’s dentist for a dental examination, have him and/or her complete the required form, and return it to your child’s school nurse.

State of Illinois Proof of Dental Examination Form
In the event that you are unable to fulfill this requirement, the state of Illinois does permit a waiver of the examination.

State of Illinois Dental Waiver Form
Dental examination forms, as well as dental waiver forms, can be downloaded from the District’s website.

If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Borzych at [email protected] or call the Twin Groves office at 847-821-8946.

Dual Language: For Parents of Incoming Kindergartners
Do you have an entering kindergartner or know of a D96 resident who does?  Are you interested in your child having a bilingual school experience?

The District 96 Spanish/English Dual Language Program was designed several years ago to implement instruction across the curriculum and provide an opportunity for students to develop a deep academic proficiency in two languages.  In the Dual Language Program, 50 percent of the academic curriculum is delivered in Spanish, and 50 percent of the academic curriculum is delivered in English.

Families interested in enrolling their incoming kindergartner in the Spanish/English Dual Language Program can indicate so on the registration form while completing the kindergarten registration process that begins March 1, 2024.  This process should be completed by April 15, 2024, to be entered into the Dual Language Lottery.  Please note that indicating interest in the Dual Language Program does not guarantee acceptance into the Dual Language program.

Please visit our District 96 Website to learn more about the optional Spanish/English Dual Language Program (https://www.kcsd96.org/curriculum/dual-language) and our Dual Language Lottery (https://www.kcsd96.org/curriculum/dual-language-lottery).

**District 96 will be hosting a Virtual Parent Night from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on March 12, 2024 for parents of incoming Kindergarten students who are interested in learning more about the Dual Language Program.**
