What’s Happening at Twin?
Spanish
The 6th graders have been reviewing numbers and then they will be studying food.
The 7th graders and 8th graders will be reviewing family and learning possessive adjectives.

Band
Band students have been recording their favorite movie, musical, or entertainment themed songs. We hope to send out a compilation of these recordings to band families next week.

All students are working on their SMART music curriculum. Students should have finished 2 levels of SMART music by this time. Our goal for the month of April is to have all students finish up to 2 ½ levels and that will help them be ready to finish the yearly goal in May of 3 levels or one full year of curriculum work completed. Ask your student how they are doing on the leveled curriculum? If they have not reached these levels they need to practice.
6th Grade students are working on playing 10 one octave major scales, they have started book 2, and are preparing themselves for the Honor Band Audition which will be given during the months of April and May.
7th Grade students are continuing to work through book 2, learning how to write melodies for their instrument, and working on subdivision in all time signatures. Percussion students are working through the 40 rudiments.
8th Grade students are working on writing melodies, playing through the pentatonic, blues, and soon the “church” mode scales. (Dorian, phrygian, and mixolydian) Percussion students are working through the 40 rudiments.

Orchestra
6th Grade orchestra students have been delving into increased use of harmonics on our instruments, as well as new scales (F Major & B flat Major). One of these new scales is featured in a new piece they are working on, called Turkish March. They are also exploring the use of vibrato, and have been encouraged to use it in their full orchestra piece - Finale (from Serenade for Strings).

7th Grade orchestra students have now been introduced to the concept of minor keys and are currently working on the A minor scale. Students are also continuing work on their orchestra piece Blue Rhythmico, as well as more complex rhythmic patterns (dotted 8th + 16th note motives).

8th Grade orchestra students are developing the ability to quickly identify key signatures, relative minors of major keys, and exploring more advanced minor keys (d minor currently) on their instrument. 8th graders are also hard at work with their orchestra piece Blue Rhythmico, and are preparing for another virtual concert.

*NEW* Attendance Procedures for In-Person Students
With the change to five days of in-person learning for all students beginning April 12th, the expectation is that students will attend in-person unless the student is under quarantine/isolation or is home ill. If for some reason your child needs to attend school remotely instead of in-person on a given day, attendance procedures are changing to state that the child’s parent/guardian will need to contact the school office prior to the start of the school day.

Keeping students (and siblings) home due to symptoms
Per the IDPH COVID-19 School Exclusion Guidance, if any household member is showing any one of the symptoms listed below, all siblings must stay home from school. Please let the school office know when calling for attendance if your child is staying home due to illness, even if the student is participating remotely.

The symptoms in which a student must stay home due to COVID-19 protocols are: fever (100.4°F or higher), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of sense of taste or smell, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches from unknown cause.
