Principal's Message March 19, 2020

3/20/20
TGIF… Twin Groves it’s Friday!
Spring Break is next week! Please enjoy the time with your family!

A Message to the Twin Groves Students
As your principal, I want to reach out to you and tell you that I am sorry that your lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. As you may know, I have two middle school children of my own. I understand how difficult this time is for everyone. We are keeping busy by taking many LONG walks, exercising, baking, reading, doing academic assignments, playing outside, cleaning and organizing, doing art projects, and playing games.

One challenge my son and I are participating in, is a push up and pull up challenge. For each day we are out of school, we do one pull up and one push up. On day one, we did one of each. On day two, we did two of each. This will continue until we are back in school! We are marking each date on a white board to keep us accountable.  Please feel free to give it a try! It is a great mental and physical challenge for sure!
You can also make up your own daily challenge.
If you try my challenge out or make up your own daily challenge, email me and let me know. I would love to hear the creative things that you are doing!

Remote Learning was released on Thursday, March 19th. The Twin Groves Staff worked very hard to provide you with excellent learning opportunities. Please balance  each day with at home activities that you enjoy, family time, exercise, and of course, the academic work in each of your classes. Please reach out to your teachers if you have any questions.

Please remain positive throughout this break. Keep a positive and an open mindset. Think about things you CAN DO rather than what you CAN’T CONTROL.

Please click HERE to great resources and activities.

I miss seeing you all at school each day!
Stay healthy and don’t forget to wash your hands!
Mrs. Barnes

Remote Learning
Please see below for the recent communication regarding Remote Learning.

District 96 Families,
We believe that keeping a focus on learning in these unprecedented times is both important and helpful. In Kildeer Countryside School District 96, our faculty and administrators are committed to continuing to engage our students.

As discussed yesterday in Superintendent Julie Schmidt’s Mar. 18 message, designated remote learning days in our school district are Mar. 31, Apr. 1, Apr. 2, and Apr. 3. Students may choose to begin their remote learning earlier, however.

Please see Remote Learning Links for grade-level work in all subjects prepared by our staff for your students.

In addition, see Remote Learning FAQs and Resources for answers to questions about accessing remote learning (including for students with IEPs), for additional resources identified by KCSD96 staff and the Illinois State Board of Education, and for technology support guidance for using KCSD96 technology.

To locate this information on our District website, find “Remote Learning” in the two-column lists on the homepages of our District and schools at www.kcsd96.org.

iPad Safety: Gaggle and SecURLy

Gaggle:
-Monitors Drive+Email files for middle schools students.
-Monitors Drive files for all other students.
-Flags inappropriate content to the administrators
- Flags inappropriate communication being sent to others

SecURLy:
-Always running on student iPads regardless of what network the device is connected to.
-Blocks inappropriate content from being reached

Please note, the SecURLy and Gaggle services do everything they can to block inappropriate content and time syncs such as gaming sites, social media sites, etc. That being said, no content-filter is perfect. The internet is a large place and a moving target that we are constantly monitoring to try and provide the most safe and efficient experience for our students. On top of SecURLy and Gaggle, we advise parents to utilize the screen time features outlined in the video linked HERE. Utilizing the screen time feature outlined in this video will allow parents to take more granular control over when their children can use the device, and what content is available.
