Principal's Message 2.17.23

Dear Parents,

We had such an exciting day today.  All students and staff participated in a half-day long Exploration Day.  We started our day with a fun assembly where we did Stand-Up Sit-Down activity where students stood up in response to statements they agreed with.  For example, "I'm excited about today's exploration activities."  All students stood up for this.  There was amazing energy in the gym!

Staff members participated in a hula-hoop "contest" which was really fun.  Waist, arm, neck, and knee moves brought amazement and laughter from all.  Our hula-hooping staff had so much fun showing off their hula-hoop skills and good humor.

After the assembly, students rotated through four stations for 30 minutes each and participated in activities they chose via survey input.  There was gardening, drawing polygons with a compass, yoga, origami, optical illusions, picnic games, Kagan activities, robotics, poms dance, clay creatures, and many more.  In fact, we had 22 options for students to choose from.

A HUGE thank you to Miss Kelly Szafranski who led the development, design, committee, and execution of Exploration Day.  Miss Szafranski's leadership and planning of this event provided students and staff with an amazing experience, one which we hope to repeat in the future.

Please be sure to ask your child about their experiences today.  They will have much to share with you!

Enjoy the weekend,

Christine

REPEAT *D96 Dual Language Program*

Do you have an entering kindergartner or know of a D96 resident who does?  Are you interested in your child having a bilingual school experience?

The District 96 Spanish/English Dual Language Program was designed several years ago to implement instruction across the curriculum that provides an opportunity for students to develop a deep academic proficiency in two languages.  In the Dual Language Program, 50 percent of the academic curriculum is delivered in Spanish, and 50 percent of the academic curriculum is delivered in English.

Families interested in enrolling their incoming Kindergartner in the Spanish/English Dual Language Program can indicate so on the registration form while completing the kindergarten registration process that begins March 1, 2023.  This process should be completed by April 15, 2023, to be entered into the Dual Language Lottery.  Please note that indicating interest in the Dual Language Program does not guarantee acceptance into the Dual Language program.

Please visit our District 96 Website to learn more about the optional Spanish/English Dual Language Program (https://www.kcsd96.org/curriculum/dual-language) and our Dual Language Lottery (https://www.kcsd96.org/curriculum/dual-language-lottery).
