Family Educator Conferences

Thank you to all the parents who were able to come to our student-led Family Educator Conferences this week.  I was so impressed with our students and how well they presented their learning to you.  The students worked so hard on putting their presentations together and the pride they displayed while being in the lead role was obvious.  The parent pride was obvious too as you listened to and asked your child about their work.  Thank you for your support of Family Educator Conferences!  Remember, you can always call your child's teacher for an update.

Conference Feedback

We thank you for participating in Collaborative Family/Educator Conferences. In order to celebrate success and make improvements to conferences, we ask you to share your feedback briefly with us no later than 3 p.m. on Mar. 22. Thank you!

SMART Watches & Other Distractions

Many SMART watches have similar capabilities to SMART phones (game, voice, and text capabilities).  If a SMART watch becomes a distraction, it may be confiscated to remove the distraction from the learning environment. Essentially, we will treat the SMART watches like a cell phone. Confiscated equipment may be picked up in the office at the end of the day.

Creating Joyful Reading Routines at Home

We all want our children to have a love of reading.  This short article by Pernille Ripp has really wonderful suggestions for fostering a family that reads.  Check it out to see if there are any new suggestions for your family to try.

Internet Safety Concern - Momo

By now you are likely aware of an Internet safety concern that has surfaced called Momo.

The “Momo Challenge/Game” begins with the recipient receiving a notification or watching a video which includes an image of a scary face/statue. The recipient is urged to perform potentially dangerous acts through intimidation techniques.  National Online Safety has published information about what parents need to know and tips to share with your child.

This is a good reminder that all of us need to remember the importance of internet safety. No filter is 100% effective. Today we are addressing Momo, however tomorrow it may be something else. Being responsible and diligent regarding best practices around the use of technology is a practice that all can benefit from. Common Sense Media is a great resource for internet use.

Officer Krozel Presents Online Safety for 5th Graders

On Thursday, our School Resource Officer, Ashley Krozel, met with three 5th grade classes (the remaining two classes will have the presentation before spring break) to discuss how to be safe online.  Topics presented were maintaining privacy-never share personal information, be careful about what you post, be kind when participating in chats, and share uncomfortable interactions with your parent. Officer Krozel suggested to students that they create a pledge with friends about how they will interact with each other online and that it’s ok to leave discussions.  KidsHealth.org has good suggestions for ways parents can talk with their child about online safety.  NetSmartz.org has age-appropriate videos for students and are very worthwhile for moms and dads to check out too.

Thanks, PTO!

The staff truly appreciates the dinner that was provided by the PTO during conferences this week.  It's really helpful to not have to worry about packing dinner for the evening.  We thank you from the bottom of our tummies.

Warm Regards,
