Positively Prairie Social-Emotional Learning Rotations

On Tuesday, students and staff engaged in activities focused on social thinking.  We spent the morning circulating amongst five rotations to remind our returning students and teach our new students about the ways we interact with others and manage our own feelings and behaviors.  Teachers in the rotations reinforced that various concepts and the common language all staff and students use at school.  For example, "Size of the Problem."  We asked kids, "What is the size of the problem if you stub your toe?  Tiny, little, medium, big or huge?"  Students discussed their perception of the problem's size and came to a consensus (or a compromise) about how big the problem was.  The four other stations students engaged in were:  whole body listening, voice level, colored thoughts, and zones of regulation.  Please ask your child to share with you their experiences from Tuesday and, perhaps, you'll find some new language to weave in at home.  If you have any questions about our activity or the stations, please feel free to reach out Miss Erin Sauer at [email protected].
