Principal's Message 8.17.18

Dear Parents,

Our three days back at school have been really great.  Teachers have taken time to establish classroom norms with students, conduct team and classroom building activities which will continue throughout the year, and begin pre-assessing students in order to inform instructional needs.  Students are clearly getting back into the groove of school and the sleepy morning eyes are fading away a bit; it can be tough to get back into the early morning routine.  We have registered over 30 new students for this school year thus far.  It's always exciting to meet new kids.

I've been out and about in classrooms quite a bit, as always.  Today while I was delivering a birthday "present" to a 4th grader, the students were thrilled to learn that this year they get stylus pens rather than the pencils they get in grades 1-3.  Analise from Mrs. Doherty's class was so excited she shouted out, "This is great!!! It's like an upgrade!"  I love working with all our Prairie Pumas.  They bring a smile to my face every day.

The staff and I are looking forward to a great year with you and your child.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions to your child's teacher or me.

MAP ASSESSMENTS AUGUST 20–29

District 96 students in kindergarten through Grade 8 will be participating in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in the areas of math and reading/language arts during portions of their school days August 20–29.

The MAP assessment is given three times during the school year to equip our teachers with data they will use to identify their students' current understanding as well as opportunities for support and extension. Students do not need to study for their MAP tests; sufficient sleep and nutrition are, as always, the best preparation. This assessment serves as a benchmark–a point in time from which to measure academic growth through the academic year.

For more information about MAP assessments, please see the following resources:

In September KCSD96 parents will receive info by email with directions for accessing their child’s MAP assessment results online.

If you have questions about MAP assessments, please contact your student’s principal.
