The Common Core State Standards are now the Illinois Learning Standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts. These new standards are called learning targets in District 96. The Common Core State Standards (D96 Learning Targets) are designed to help students develop the skills they will need in college and in the modern workplace: collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. Teachers, along with experts in the fields of English Language Arts and Mathematics, helped write, pilot and implement the Common Core Standards.
