Woodlawn Principal's Blog 2/14/25

2/14/25

I am amazed at the speed at which the weeks are going by.  I am so proud of the students and staff for the work that we are doing, but also the fun that we have.  Imagine having 650, 11-14-year-olds and placing expectations on them, making them work, collaborate, and share a level of kindness and concern for each other.  Yes, we have bumps in the road, but for the most part, we function at a really high level.  Check out the blog this week for just a few items.

Upcoming Dates:

2/17- No School

2/18- Early Release- Students dismissed at 1:30 PM

2/28- No School

3/3- No School

Report Cards

As we approach the end of the reporting period, Kildeer Countryside School District 96 is excited to remind families that Trimester 2 report cards will be issued on February 28th. This marks a significant moment to reflect on student progress and achievements. We encourage parents to review these reports with their children and celebrate their efforts and growth.

To view, parents will need to log into School Insight/TeacherEase. Returning families should have School Insight/TeacherEase log-in information. For new families or anyone who does not have an account established, you will soon be receiving an email from the district. If you have any questions, please reach out to your school's front office. If you forgot your password, please ensure you are selecting "Forgot Password" on the School Insight/TeacherEase log-in page. Thank you for your continued support in fostering a positive learning environment!

Wrestling at Conference Meet

Good luck to our Woodlawn wrestling team at the conference meet tomorrow.  Mr. Berry and Mrs. Kopp have this group of wrestlers ready to go.

Pictures From our Ski Trip

Thank you to Ms. Gordon and our chaperones who volunteered to work the 3 ski trips this year.  300 students, of all different skill levels, had the opportunity to go skiing with their friends this year.  Check out these pictures from the most recent trip.

Washington D.C. Trip

Safe travels to our 8th graders and chaperones who are traveling to our nations capital this weekend.  This is a great trip for the students, gaining a ton of knowledge and having fun with their friends at the same time.  Good times.

Amazing 6-1 Team

I was honored by the 6-1 team today.  As the outgoing principal, the teams are doing some fun things for me and it is truly heartwarming.  Today, every student on the 6-1 team gave me one of the following: a heart headband, sticker, fake rose, handwritten note or card, bracelet, or beads to wish me luck.  Each child looked me in the eyes and wished me well or thanked me.  It is a memory I will never forget.

Finally, Valentine’s Day.  Overrated? Wonderful?  Annoying? Romantic?  I honestly cannot say where I stand on the subject.  I will say this, on Wednesday, out of nowhere, I was asked if I needed anything that wasn’t too expensive.  At that moment, I knew that something was up.  You don’t want to be the spouse that shows up on Valentine’s Day without a gift.  I responded with a simple, “gym bag?”  Do you need anything?  My wife responded with, “Yoga mat”.  I mean, we are talking romance at its finest.  This morning, it was clear that neither of us had a card for the other, so we shook hands and promised that there would be no card exchange.

When I asked my children, all of whom were raised in the same environment, the oldest and youngest were all in on Valentine’s Day and my two middle kids couldn't care less.  There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this “holiday” is important or not important.  They are all loving people, but they value different things.  Although I have never received a dozen roses, I am sure they are very nice.  On the flip side, when those roses wilt after a week, was it worth it?  Personally, I am a sap for a handwritten card, or an art project. Good deeds and thoughtfulness should be celebrated all of the time.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I love me a candy heart that says “love you” or “be mine”.  However you celebrate, I hope that you have a great day.

Enjoy the 3-day weekend!
