Woodlawn Spirit Assembly - January 24th
We are so excited about Woodlawn's upcoming spirit assembly on Friday, January 24th! At the spirit assembly, we are looking forward to recognizing some of our student groups and their amazing talents. Additionally, all students will have the chance to win gift cards and participate in some fun "minute-to-win-it" type of competition. Entries for the gift cards and competitions can be earned by participating in the spirit week leading up to the assembly. We would LOVE it if parents could encourage their students to get involved in the fun!
Check out our list of activities.

Police Chief for a Day Contest - Woodlawn has a winner!
I am pleased to share with you that Anvika Mallampati, an 8th grader from Woodlawn Middle School, is this year's Chief for a Day contest winner. Anvika's submission was selected from a pool of entries from students across three school districts served by the Buffalo Grove Police.
We received many high-quality entries, and I am incredibly proud that one of our students emerged as the winner this year.
I will be working closely with Anvika, her family, and Chief Budds to schedule a date for this exciting experience in the near future. Additionally, I will be in touch with Anvika to create an itinerary for the day that best fits her interests and ensures she has a memorable and enriching experience.

After School Late Buses
Our after-school late buses (3:25 p.m.) have been running late this week. The bus company is doing their best but they have had a number of people out sick. We will continue to communicate with you if there are delays in the routes. Thank you for your patience.
Finally, it is so good to be back in the building. Kudos to Mr. Bays for holding down the fort and doing an incredible job while I was out. I am so confident that he is ready for next year and that the future of Woodlawn is bright. The staff was also incredible and we didn’t miss a beat in December. I am so lucky to have such a dedicated and committed group of professionals working in this building. Also, thanks to all the parents for your well wishes. So, knee replacement surgery. I have some thoughts. I am going to list out the positives and negatives of medical procedures.
+ I would do it again because I can already tell that there is a positive difference.
+ If you get the right meds, you are good to go.
+ Family members are cautious around you because they think that you are going to fall apart at any moment.
+ There is very little expected of you for weeks.
On the flip side of that...
∆ Physical Therapists have a mean streak to them.
∆ Putting on socks is a major issue.
∆ I brought down the average age at PT by many years and older people looked at me with pity.
∆ My mother-in-law who had heart surgery at the same time was way faster than I was with a walker.
∆ When you drop something, picking it up is a problem.
∆ Using a walker, even with tennis balls on the bottom is a scary introduction to your future.
∆ Don’t drive home from surgery with someone who is heavy on the brake.
All is good and I am ready to tackle the rest of the school year. Moving on and looking forward to the next few months! Have a great weekend.
