Happy Friday Woodlawn! News came out from Mrs. Sheridan, our superintendent, about District 96 naming a new Woodlawn principal for the 2025-26 school year. I am happy to announce and support Mr. Greg Bays as the new leader of Woodlawn. In addition to everything you have already seen, I want to add that Mr. Bays is a tireless worker who is committed to students and is very knowledgeable in the field of education. All of that is great, but let me tell you what I respect most about Greg Bays…He is an honorable man who cares deeply for his family and each student at Woodlawn. I am happy and excited for the Woodlawn community. Congratulations Greg Bays! You are the person for the job.
Upcoming Dates:
11/27-12/1- No School- Thanksgiving Break
Blog
There will not be a blog next week. December 6th will be the next blog and Mr. Bays will be writing that one.
New to KCSD96: Coffee and Conversation
KCSD96 is excited to host another "New to KCSD96: Family Coffee and Conversation"! This is an opportunity for parents and guardians of newly registered students to ask questions and share information about their transition in a casual and fun way. This will be communicated in Friday's E-News, but we would love it if you helped us spread the word!
This year’s Coffee starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 3rd, at Ivy Hall Elementary School, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove in the Educational Development Center (EDC).
It is an informal opportunity for these new parents and guardians to ask questions and share their thoughts — with other parents and staff — about their experiences in the district. These parents might be experiencing the District’s social customs and teaching practices for the first time, just as their students have, and can learn from the experiences of others.
New parents/guardians who missed the New Family Tours in August are encouraged to attend this conversation. Those who did attend the tours are welcome to join this conversation to share how they are adjusting to the District 96 culture.
Coffee and other refreshments will be served.
For planning purposes, RSVP at https://forms.gle/BhyqUTF2xFitcBah8.
This is an event only for parents and guardians.

Finally, it has been a long time coming. 25 years ago, I sustained a significant knee injury playing basketball. Through the years, it became worse and worse, leading me to the decision to go through a knee replacement procedure. Going through this process has been very interesting. Did you know that a procedure like this doesn’t happen at a hospital? Doctors rent out space at a clinic and you go when they have time. Ideally, I would have done this last summer, but my doctor was on vacation during the most ideal time for me. The next option was the start of the school year and that was a hard no for me. The Friday before Thanksgiving or the beginning of February were the other choices. My decision was simple, so I will go through this procedure tomorrow. I will return on January 6th after a few weeks of rehab and healing.
So that everyone knows, I find humor in almost everything. Two weeks ago, I needed to go in for a pre-operation visit. It would up being the worst game show I could imagine. After getting some questions answered, the game show started. Behind the first curtain was, wait for it, a pair of yellow socks with a tacky bottom. Ooooooh. Johnny, what else do we have for our contestant? Looking behind door number 2, it was an ice machine that pumps cold water to the new titanium structure holding your femur together with your tibia and fibula. Fun! Listen to the ooohs and aaah’s in the crowd. Behind the last door is the gift you never wanted….it is a walker! Nothing screams senior citizenship like your very own walker. So, as you think of me going through rehab, please know that I will be collecting new storylines for my blog. Happy Holidays to everyone and have a great Thanksgiving. Mr. Bays is going to write the next three blogs, and I am confident that you will see his personality shine through his writing.
Enjoy your weekend everyone! I am going to apply to the Wheel of Fortune!
