Woodlawn Principal's Blog 10/11/24

10/11/24

Good afternoon Woodlawn!  It was a pleasure to see a couple of you in the building for conferences.  I know the vast majority of you had virtual conferences, so I hope they went well for you.  I want to thank everyone for their incredible support this week.  Please know that Mr. Bays and myself worked extremely hard to gather information, make determinations and communicate with the community and staff.  Woodlawn is a great place and our entire educational community deserves our best.  Just a few items for the blog this week.

PICTURE MAKE UP DAY

This Wednesday, October 16th.  Students will be called down to the gym for their pictures.

Finally, more than a couple of things are on my mind after this week.  I will begin with the hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast side of Florida.  Those of you who have read my blog over the past few years know this is a hot spot for me.  There is absolutely no reason to stick a human with a microphone, near a beach and have them yell into a microphone that there are strong winds and sideway rain.  WE GET IT!  I did notice this year that the person in the storm is now wearing a helmet.  So…let me get this straight, if the person you are sending out into the hurricane needs a helmet, maybe they shouldn’t be going out there at all.  Just saying.  I am convinced that humans are doomed if someone in charge believes that a helmet is the best answer to keeping their employees safe while sending another human out into a catastrophic storm.

The second thing for me this week is that the Woodlawn principal job for the 25-26 school year was posted as open, and candidates need to apply.  I 100% support the district in doing this, but it is a little weird to actually see it.  I want the district to find a wonderful candidate who will support our Superintendent, Mrs. Sheridan, in keeping the momentum going forward here at Woodlawn.  This needs to happen early in the school year to get the best candidates into District 96.  In my world, even though I was extremely busy this week, I was torn between excitement and reality.  As you all know, I love this place.  The students, staff, district, and community.  I will keep you up to date with the progress of the process.  This is a good thing.

Have a great long weekend!
