Hello Woodlawn! This was a shorter week but another great one here at Woodlawn. We started our basketball and soccer seasons, had a fun Dessert Day and the weather was really nice. The NFL games start this weekend which means baseball is coming to a merciful conclusion. I am thankful that the White Sox scored their 32nd win of this miserable season. Woo hoo. Enjoy the blog and your weekend!

Erin’s Law- September 9th Presentation
An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Be Seen & Heard ©. For more information about this presentation please go to www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2
This developmentally appropriate and interactive program focuses on teaching children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault.
Opt-Out Procedures
The presentation to Woodlawn students will be during the school day on September 11, 2024. If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request or your questions to Greg Grana at [email protected].

Finally, it is time for the NFL season to start. I love it when the students wear the jersey of their favorite team and we have friendly banter. The Bears fans are ready for a young, exciting team to emerge, starting a special rookie quarterback and a bunch of talented young players. The NFC North division should be one of the best in football with the Lions, Packers, and Bears (oh my) all competing for the title. The Vikings may struggle some but you never know.
The fun of gathering as a family, sitting around on a Sunday afternoon, decked out in the jersey or garb of your favorite team is simply fun. This raises the question…at what age do you become too old to wear a jersey? I contend that you are never too old to wear a jersey but you should consider the number that you are sporting. For example, it seems silly to me that a guy my age wears a wide receiver’s number. I have lost a step (or two) and I would be much better off in an offensive lineman's jersey. Wearing #1 or #87 is ridiculous. I am much more likely to be a #75 at this point in my life. Plus, I can eat all the snacks I want during a game and not feel bad about it. I also think that it is tough to wear a field goal kicker jersey. Lots and lots of pressure on that guy. I still feel bad for Scott Norwood who missed the kick at the end of the Superbowl, wide right. As seen in the photo below, people have a biting sense of humor.
I am also afraid to buy a quarterback jersey until I know that they are great. I am telling you, once you are over 40, go with a number in the 60’s or 70’s. It is liberating and you can spill all over it and no one will judge you. Enjoy the Bears this weekend, I am sure it will be great.
