Picture Day

This Wednesday, August 28th is Picture Day.  We will be taking photos during our PE classes.  Picture day make-ups will be on October 18th.  (Just in case your child takes a picture that could become an internet hit and you don’t want that memory)  Your student was given a flyer, but here is a copy...just in case.

Erin’s Law

An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Be Seen & Heard ©. For more information about this presentation please go to www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2

This developmentally appropriate and interactive program focuses on teaching children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault.

Opt-Out Procedures

The presentation to Woodlawn students will be during the school day on September 11, 2024. If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request or your questions to Greg Grana [email protected].

Basketball & Soccer Teams

Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team (not completely true…he didn’t make the varsity as a Sophomore) but your child has a GREAT opportunity to be on our Girls' Basketball Team!  We are looking for any Woodlawn girls who are interested in playing, and the best news is that they do not need any experience.  If your daughter is interested, contact Mrs. Schneider asap!  [email protected]  We need a bunch of players.

Soccer is also looking for 2 more girls to complete their roster.  If your daughter is interested in joining the soccer team, please contact Mr. Nuebling asap.  [email protected]

Sports Physicals- Please Read

Any 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade student interested in Cross Country, Girl's Basketball, or Soccer must have a current Sports Physical to try out or participate.  Now is a great time for families to check and get everything in order.

If you have any questions about your child’s current Sports Physical, please contact Denise Kaufmann [email protected]

Finally, I remember being a young kid and my dad driving past a high school baseball game.  One day, knowing that I always had questions about the high school team, he decided to stop with me and watch a few innings.  It was the coolest thing I had ever seen.  Tons of fans, the players looked like professionals, and the uniforms were the most amazing things I could imagine.  I knew at that moment that I wanted to wear the uniform of our high school team.  Leading into the spring of my freshman year, I was ready to try out and give it my best shot.  As a baseball player, I thought that I was decent, but I worked extremely hard to make the team.  Fortunately, when I made the team it felt great, practicing with the best guys from all around our town and representing our school.   The day they handed out the hats and uniforms, was such a meaningful day.  I cannot begin to tell you how much pride I felt.  It was the first time my long-term goal was realized.  I have been so fortunate in life.  Continuing to dream big, I set one goal after another and am now at the point of wondering, what can I accomplish next?  My hope is that every one of our students finds their passion is able to reach out and grab their dreams.  Wherever it may start, there is an opportunity for growth and success. The next time you drive by a Little League baseball or softball field, know that a dream might be forming.  It may not develop into becoming a major league baseball or softball player, but it could be someone who is building a dream.

Have a great weekend!
