Parents, please click on this link to view our health class curriculum letter. Read through it thoroughly as it will give you a good idea about the topics that are covered.
Locker Set Up Day
Locker Set Up Day will be Wednesday, August 14th from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
During this time, the school will be open for students to set up their lockers and walk through their schedules. Classrooms will be locked but the building will be open for students to walk their schedules. This is a great time to practice locker combinations.
Cell Phones - Must be kept in lockers
This topic has been in the news more and more lately. It is clear that cell phones are distracting to students and they cannot be out or on their phones during the school day. Parents, please do not call your child during the day and distract them from their learning.
Cell phones should be securely locked in the student’s lockers from 7:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
We are asking that all students have their cell phones silenced and locked in their lockers from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
If a staff member sees a cell phone out, we will ask the student to lock it in their locker. If they do not comply, the phone will be taken and sent to the office until the end of the day. Students can collect their cell phones from the office at 2:30 p.m..
Here is a link to assist you if you would like to place some restrictions on your child’s iPhone.
Please see the language from the D96 Board Policy Manual:
Using or possessing an electronic paging device. Using a cellular telephone, video recording device, personal digital assistant (PDA), or other electronic device in any manner that disrupts the educational environment, or violates the privacy right of others, including using the device to take photographs in locker rooms or bathrooms, cheat, or otherwise violate student conduct rules. Prohibited conduct specifically includes, without limitation, creating, sending, sharing, viewing, receiving, or possessing an indecent visual depiction of oneself or another person through the use of a computer, electronic communication device, or cellular phone. Unless otherwise banned under this policy or by the Building Principal, all electronic devices must be kept powered-off or silenced and out-of-sight during the regular school day unless (a) the supervising teacher grants permission; (b) use of the device is provided in a student’s individualized education program (IEP); (c) it is used during the student’s lunch period, or (d) it is needed in an emergency that threatens the safety of students, staff, or other individuals.
Dress Code
Dress Code comes up a lot during the warm weather months of the year. Parents, please be sure your child is properly dressed for school.
This is a friendly reminder of the District 96 Standards of Dress from the Parent/Student Handbook.
4.12-e Standards for Student Dress. Students who are appropriately and comfortably dressed are able to focus on schoolwork more effectively. The following guidelines will be enforced by building administrators. Cooperation by parents is appreciated.
1. Dress or appearance that provokes or distracts other students or otherwise causes a disruption to the educational process is prohibited.
2. Shoes must be worn at all times.
3. Clothing, jewelry, or accessories may not have writing or pictures that advertise or advocate alcohol, drugs, tobacco, obscenity, violence, or gang activity.
4. Pants must be worn at the waistline.
5. Hats are allowed on designated hat days only.
6. Half shirts, cropped tops, spaghetti straps, and underwear or sleepwear worn as outerwear are not acceptable.
7. Undergarments should not be visible.
8. With the exception of appropriate jewelry, no chains should be worn.
Students who violate the policy and rules of the student dress code will be asked to comply with the rules by either changing to other attire that is available at school, or by having parents bring different clothes from home. In the event there is noncompliance with the above regulations, a student may receive disciplinary action.
Please note…any student violating the dress code will be asked to change into other clothes or cover-up.

Woodlawn Main Office
The Woodlawn Main Office opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 3:30 p.m. We have many new people working in our office this year, so please stay patient with us as we learn and grow.
Finally, my children are 29, 27, 24 & 21. They are adults. My wife and I have done the elementary, and middle school thing. We did countless activities on weeknights/weekends, and went to all of the high school events. College drop-offs where I was heartbroken and my wife was a gleeful kid sending her babies into the world. I’ve seen them graduate and get good jobs in the fields of education/coaching, engineering, accounting, and in May of 2025, my youngest will graduate and become a special education teacher. They have moved out, moved back in, and moved out again. I have emptied rooms and stored their boxes of junk with the hope that one day, it would be given to them forever. This weekend, I am taking a step back in time. I am setting up a baby crib in one of our bedrooms. In early September, my oldest son and his wife are expecting their first child and the first grandchild on both sides of the family. I have been tasked with once again, putting together the crib. I was thrilled to lose the crib the first time around after a solid ten-year run, but here we go again. I am so excited to be a grandparent although I am not sure that I will ever be allowed to hold this baby with the long line of family members who are going to want serious baby-holding time. Picking out a grandpa's name is at the forefront of my mind. I like Pappy, but my daughter-in-law has nixed that one. Papa works, or Pops, Gramps…whatever. It is exciting. Time zooms by, it was 11 years ago when he graduated from high school. Before you know it, many of you will be in the same boat I am…putting a crib back up. Have a great weekend.
