We are almost back! Each year, when we hit August, I get very excited about the upcoming school year. In just a few days, Woodlawn students will bring their energy back to our building and we will on our way toward another great school year. We have been doing a lot of preparation and will be ready to go soon.
Welcome to Woodlawn
I want to welcome our new staff members to Woodlawn. Through the interview process, I am very excited to have the following people join our amazing staff.

Student Schedules and Locker Assignments
Student schedules and locker assignments will be available electronically on Friday, August 9th. Please look out for an email from the district on the 9th. The email will not come from Mr. Grana.
From Nurse Kaufmann
The following forms will need to be turned in to the district office:
6th grade physical /immunization forms
7th/8th grade students need a current physical for sports
Nurse Kaufmann will be at our locker set-up day for parents to drop off forms/medication.
Locker Set Up Day
Locker Set Up Day will be Wednesday, August 14th from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
During this time, the school will be open for students to set up their lockers and walk through their schedules. Classrooms will be locked but the building will be open for students to walk their schedules. This is a great time to practice locker combinations.
Locker Shelves
Students do not need them anymore.
PE Uniforms
The PE shirts and shorts sold through the PTO are the REQUIRED uniform for all students to participate in PE. Sweatshirts and sweatpants are optional. Locks for gym lockers are required but do not have to be purchased through the PTO. Pre-order, including bundle discounts, close the morning of August 14th. All Pre-Orders will be available for pick-up at Locker Set-Up.
LOCKER SET-UP DAY is 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14TH
PRE-ORDERING on Membership Toolkit will SPEED UP your Locker Set Up Day process.
Spend less time in line, by pre-ordering your PE Uniforms.
If you don’t pre-order, computers will be set up in the gym for you to use.
New to the District?
Has your family recently moved to the United States OR are you and your student(s) new to the district?
On Wednesday, August 14th from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM, parents who are new to the district and have students attending Woodlawn this year are invited for a new family orientation.
This is an opportunity for parents to meet the Woodlawn administrators and learn about our school.
Please meet Mr. Grana and Mr. Bays in the Cafeteria at Woodlawn.
Locker Set Up Day will immediately follow the new family orientation.
Opening Day
Opening Day will be Thursday, August 15th, 2024 from 7:45 AM - 11:10 PM.
Please note, this is a HALF DAY for students.
The first full day of school will be Friday, August 16th from 7:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

iPads
All students will receive their new iPads at the beginning of the school year.
Curriculum Nights
6th Grade Curriculum Night: Monday, August 26th.
7th and 8th Grade Curriculum Night: Wednesday, August 28th.

2024-25 KCSD 96 Approved Snack List
Approved Snack List
The 2024-2025 school year approved snack list can be found here in English and here in Spanish. It is also accessible on the Student Services page of the district website linked here in both English and Spanish. All items on the approved snack list are free of the Top 9 Allergens (Milk, Eggs, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Fish, Shellfish, Soy, Sesame, and Wheat) and Gluten.
All items MUST be pre-packaged and individually wrapped, excluding fruits and vegetables. This helps teachers easily identify the snacks and ensure they comply with our approved snack list.
Woodlawn Office Hours
The Woodlawn office opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 3:30 p.m. daily. We will have many new faces in our office so please remain patient with all of us as we get on-the-job training. Thank you in advance.

Finally, I like to end my blog each week with a little story that will have nothing to do with education or school in general. Life as a school principal gets hectic, but I enjoy sharing the lighter side of things with the hope that you walk away feeling a little more comfortable with the person who in charge of your middle school. I will try to make the blog informative and fun, maybe even something that you look forward to at the end of the week. Woodlawn is everything to me and I have been honored to work with this community as principal for the last 18, going on 19 years. I will make time for you and please come to me if you ever have a question. Try not to gather your information from whatever social media post that is current. I invite you to come directly to me. My blog may not be perfect, and I am certainly far from perfect, but the success Woodlawn has had since it opened is undeniable. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you each week.
