6th Grade Dental Forms Needed

Dear Parents/Guardians of District 96 6th Grade Students:

Please note that your child’s completed dental examination is now due, per Illinois school law. The deadline for the dental examination is no later than May 15 of the current school year.  Proof of this required dental examination must have been completed within eighteen months prior to the May 15 deadline.

If you haven’t already done so, please make an appointment with your child’s dentist for a dental examination, have him and/or her complete the required form, and return it to your child’s school nurse.

State of Illinois Proof of Dental Examination Form

In the event that you are unable to fulfill this requirement, the state of Illinois does permit a waiver of the examination.

State of Illinois Dental Waiver Form

Dental examination forms, as well as dental waiver forms, can be downloaded from the District’s website.

If you have any questions, please contact Denise Kaufmann [email protected]  or call the Woodlawn office at 847-353-8500.

Thank you for your prompt cooperation.

Wolves of the Month

Congratulations to our Woodlawn Wolves of the Month for March.  Each team chooses a Woodlawn student to be their representative.  The characteristics we look for are consistently demonstrating respect, kindness, responsibility, and perseverance, as well as serving as a role model for outstanding expected behavior.

Way to go Lyla Gollwitzer, Michael McCann, Caylem Sieja, Nicole Dimitrov, Arjun Verma, Sanjoy Devabhaktuni, Julia Collins, Izza Cheema, and Michelle Xu.

Wrestling

The banner purchased by our PTO for our wrestlers who made it to State this year came in.  Congratulations again to Emmit Dhepyasuwan, Ray Riordan, and Arthur Grechanyuk.

Technology

Parents, please remind your students to take care of their iPads and Apple Pens.  We are seeing a large increase in the amount of broken devices.

Physical Education

Students in PE will be starting our "Tournament of Champions" unit on Monday. Each team has a color and students are encouraged to wear an item of clothing in PE to represent their team during the unit. Teams are posted in Schoology if students need to check their teams. We are looking forward to a fun unit!!!

Eclipse

This past Monday, we witnessed the eclipse.  Bonnie Tyler would have been proud of our students as we went outside to take in this rare occurrence.

Finally, my world is being surrounded by Generation Z humans.  Of course, we have the middle school students who have never known life without technology, and yes they make me crazy at times because that is all they focus on.  In my humble opinion, social media has made them funnier, less awkward, and more socially aware of trends.  Many of our middle schoolers know how to apply the 10-step Sephora skincare and makeup routine.  I honestly believe that our middle schoolers are not nearly as awkward as they used to be compared to my daughter's group who is college-aged. For our middle school students, the clothing and fashion trends are easy to see on Instagram and Snapchat, and everyone is cool with wearing whatever they feel comfortable in.  This is a far cry from my 28-year-old son who wore sweats and a sweatshirt all through middle school.  His first technology was a flip phone and my wife had every restriction possible on his usage.  Looking at my 28-year-old, comparing his upbringing to my 21-year-old daughter, and looking at our current 11-14-year-olds, I feel like I am in a completely different universe.  Don’t get me wrong, they are all good at technology, but they look at each other in a very different light.  My son thinks that we were way too soft on my daughter at every turn.  My daughter said, and I quote, “I cannot believe what middle school students have access to.  It scares me.”  I need to look at research and figure out what is making these middle school kids tick.  I love them, but I am not sure I understand them.  I am going to dig in and get back to you on this one at a later date.

Enjoy your weekend.
