Woodlawn Principal Blog 9/15/23

Happy Friday Woodlawn!  It was a great week here in the land of the Wolves.  I can tell that the students are feeling more comfortable because of some of the decisions that are being made.  I am very pleased with our 8th graders and everything that they are doing within the school.  They have really matured into a terrific group.  Now, check in with me next week to see if I am still feeling that way.  Just a couple of  items in the blog this week.

Upcoming Dates:

Tuesday, September 19th - Early Release - 1:30 Dismissal

Monday, September 25th - NO SCHOOL

Snowflake 2023

A Program for Woodlawn Middle School 7th Graders

Wednesday, October 25th, 2023

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of Woodlawn 7th grade students,

On Wednesday, October 25th, all 7th grade students will participate in the

Snowflake program. This will be held in person at Woodlawn during regular

school hours.

WHAT is Snowflake?

Snowflake is an event that brings together middle school students, high school leaders,

and adults for a day of sharing, learning, and listening. The goal is to strengthen young

people to help them be safe, healthy, make smart choices, and be drug free. The

program strives to facilitate discussion and interaction among students, which lead to

valuable decision making skills and how to handle peer pressure.

HOW can our students benefit?

Snowflake helps students examine their attitudes and values in a safe and comfortable

environment. Adolescents experience more rapid personal growth and development than

any other stage of life except infancy. Early adolescence is also a time when young

people want to belong, crave excitement, and often can be pressured into making poor

decisions. Snowflake is designed to help teens make responsible decisions in their daily

Lives.

WHAT issues are addressed by Snowflake?

Snowflake is teen-centered. Teens are concerned with friendships, communication, stress, bullying, and other related issues. Honest discussions about such topics help to decrease the risks that teens may turn to drugs/alcohol/risky behaviors as a way of coping.

All students will receive a complimentary Snowflake 2023 T-shirt and a special pizza

lunch.

Please complete the following form linked below by September 22nd, 2023 @ 8:00 a.m.

Finally, Apple is coming out with a new iPhone.  Congrats. As a company, you are doing well.  Great.  What gets me is that with the new iPhone, a new cord is going to be required to charge it.  I read an article where it said that Apple feels bad about changing the cord, but it does not have a choice because certain countries are requiring a specific type of charging cord.  Yep, they feel bad.  In my world, if they really felt bad for the consumer, the adapter piece would be sold at a reasonable price.  Instead, my current cord will go into the cord abyss that resides in a container, in a cabinet, within my house. This container holds historical timepieces that show the evolution of technology through the last 40+ years of my life.  I am talking about cords for phones, VCR’s and TV’s.  We venture into the past to see coaxial cables, Apple 30-pins, digital virtual interface cords (DVI), VGA, composite cables, s-video cables and on and on.  Here is my problem…I am deathly afraid of getting rid of a cord of any kind for the fear of needing it one day.  The vision in my head is my buddies are over and someone brings an old 8mm film and needs a Z4magnumfluxcapacitorcord.  When they ask me if I have one, I am wildly embarrassed to say I threw mine away.  “What do you mean you threw your Z4magnumfluxcapacitorcord away?  You never do that!”  Instead, I have a bin full of cords that do not even closely match any electronic device in my home.  That makes way more sense.  Please take a look at this craziness and try not to judge.  This is the reality of my life.  I know that some of you can relate to my illness.
