Halloween - Monday, October 31st

Halloween Costumes

We allow Halloween costumes to be worn to school on October 31st every year.  I ask the following from the students:

  • Costumes are school appropriate
  • No weapons or facsimile weapons
  • No blood or gore
  • No masks
  • If a teacher asks students to remove a part of their costume, the student complies

Good times.  Encourage your student to wear something fun to school that day.

Veterans Day

There is still time to send in a picture of a family member, friend or loved one who served in the military.  We will be sharing these on a video at lunch on November 11, 2022.  Thank you to everyone who has turned theirs in already.    [email protected]

Soccer Champions

Congratulations to the Woodlawn girls soccer team on winning the championship last night over Fremont. The girls finished the game 2-1 in a hard fought victory and finished the season 10-0. Goals were scored by Morgan McKelvey and Katelyn Wojdelko. These two each had an assist as well. Natalie Owens, Kelsey Krull, Morgan, Katelyn, Aanya Patel, Karissa Costabile, and Gwen Fisher were leaders on the field yesterday. They were aggressive and had great communication and ball movement. Anna Slyvych, Lizzy Boardman, Chloe Kwong, Kylie Kwong, Abani Mohanchandra, and Maya Majewski kept the ball moving and worked as a team to push the ball up the Fremont side of the field. Elise Edgcomb, Karissa Costabile, Karolina Narvaez, Giada Cardone, Angelica Siocon, and Diana Gasnikova did a great job protecting our goal and stopping the Fremont offense from scoring. Gwen Fisher had some stellar saves in goal yesterday. Great job Wolves! A special shout out to the 8th graders for a wonderful Woodlawn soccer career- Morgan McKelvey, Kelsey Krull, Natalie Owens, Aanya Patel, Katelyn Wojdelko, Gwen Fisher, Chloe Kwong, Abani Mohanchandra, Angelica Siocon!

Basketball Champions

The 8th grade A girls basketball team ended their season on top, winning the Championship game last night against Daniel Wright with a score of 20-18. It was a close game all 4 quarters, but we really came together as a team in the last 4.5 minutes to solidify the win. Players include 8th graders- Valentina Shamuel, Laila Nunez, Devanshi Pandya, Leila Markicic, Taneesha Pahari, and Kaylee Sanchez, and 7th graders- Kailina de la Sierra, Rehana Bhojwani, and Sophia Alchin. This team had an amazing season, ending as the number one seed with a record of 7-1. Entering the semifinal game against Aptakisic, the girls redeemed their one loss to bring them to the championship game. Being one of two teams that were made up of both 8th and 7th graders, the girls fought hard to improve their skills all season, showing great improvement not only as individuals, but as a team as well. Mrs. Schneider couldn't be more proud of the growth and determination these girls showed all season, and especially in last nights' game. They fought every minute of every game, and certainly earned this championship win. Congrats girls!

Finally, (part 1) I personally find this to be a little forced.  Bosses Day is silly in my world.  Personally, I think that somewhere, someone wanted cake at work and before you know it, the entire world is celebrating this day.  It is also Principal Month...Do I need a whole month? Absolutely not.  My sister needed a month for her birthday when she was younger. Anyone with a sibling like that?  My youngest daughter has taken to her Auntie Mar's theory of attention, but I don't even want a day.  I will say that I am very thankful to have an outstanding AP in Jessica Groncki.  So for those of you who are wondering, yes we had a cake.

Finally (part 2), this is the time of year I start worrying about, of all things, daylight savings time.  I am nervous that I am going to somehow miss it and be an hour early for everything on Sunday.  Seriously, how irrational is that?  Now, do I take 5 seconds and google when is daylight savings time for fall 2022?  Nope, I think about it, stress for a second and then go on until it pops into my brain again.  Fall daylight savings should be a celebration.  You get an extra hour to do what you please.  This theory hit a 14 year glitch when my kids were young because little ones are not in tune with the extra hour thing and wake up around the same time no matter what.  Anyways, for those of you who have no idea when it is this year, and maybe want to be surprised by it, welcome to my world.  Have a good weekend.  No you do not get the extra hour this Sunday.  I am curious how many people will look it up...
