Halloween Costumes

We allow Halloween costumes to be worn to school on October 31st every year.  I ask the following from the students:

  • Costumes are school appropriate
  • No weapons
  • No blood or gore
  • No masks
  • If a teacher asks students to remove a part of their costume, the student complies

Thanks for your support on this.  We really have a lot of fun.

Community Service Club - Please Donate

The Community Service club will be celebrating Socktober!  Each night in the United States, an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets.  As the temperatures begin to drop, this small donation could help make someone's day a little easier.  We will be donating socks, along with hats and gloves, to local shelters.  Please participate by dropping off a new pair of socks, gloves or a hat in the front office by 10/27.  Thank you!

Lockdown Drill

We did our first lockdown drill of the school year.  The students did an amazing job and we were able to get through the drill quickly.  I am really proud of the job the students did and how well they react to the lockdown drills.

Finally, I am exceptionally proud of our school social workers and our counselor.  They are an essential part of our school community.  Even if they are not required to see a student, they are in the lunchroom and hallways, making conversation with all students.  They make themselves available at almost every hour of the day or night and they are experts at meeting the needs of middle school students and keeping them safe.  They have also been known to help the principal when he is frustrated, tired or cranky.  Mrs. Franks, Ms. Gember and Mrs. Jessogne are excellent role models and always willing to talk with parents if they have questions or concerns.  If you do have a question or concern about your child and would like advice or a trusted adult for your child to talk with, these ladies are your go to people.  I cannot express their importance and the impact they have here at Woodlawn.
