Woodlawn Principal's Blog 9/30/22

9/30/22

Happy last Friday of September.  We are moving along and the students are getting into their school work.  Remember that next week is a shortened week.  There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Wednesday, October 5th, Thursday, October 6th,  Friday October 7th, or Monday, October 10th. Classes are back in session on Tuesday, October 11th!

Conferences will be held on October 6th and 7th. Please see below for more information.

PTO –Spiritwear Delivered!

Spiritwear ordered at the beginning of the school year was delivered to the students during their lunch periods this week.  If your child did not get theirs, please email Holly Krull ([email protected]) and let her know.

Also, if you missed our spirit wear sale, you can always go to our online website - Woodlawn - 1st Place Spiritwear and order year round...it has lots of new and different options.  Items are mailed directly to your home.

PTO-Save the Date!

Woodlawn's Fall Party will be here soon, so mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 26th from 6-8pm.  A favorite of Woodlawn students, more information will be coming soon so make sure to save the date.  This is a student only drop off event.  We are always in need of more volunteers so if you would like to help the night of the event, visit Membership Toolkit to sign up.

Congratulations to our first set of Woodlawn Wolves of the Month!

Congratulations to the following Wolves of the Month:

William Tian

Sofia Arriola

Mihir Verma

Tommy Parkinson

Landon Hutchinson

Mohini Saraf

Iris Carrasco

Hurricanes

I have said this before…I do not need a reporter out in 100 mile per hour winds, risking getting hit in the head by flying objects, to tell me that the weather is bad.  The palm tree tops touching the ground gave me that clue.  #saveourweatherpeople.

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be October 19th.

Conferences October 6th & 7th

Conferences are approaching next week on Thursday 10/6 and Friday 10/7. All conferences are virtual unless you have contacted the teacher via email and made arrangements for an in-person conference. This must be done no later than the end of the school day on Tuesday 10/4.

After scheduling a conference, you received an email from Meet the Teacher with a link for the conferences. This email was sent from the address [email protected] and will have the subject line “Your appointment for Woodlawn Middle SCHOOL 2022 Fall Family Educator Conferences.” Please check your spam or junk mail folders if you do not remember getting this email. We have had several parents report this email going to those folders.

When you click on the link in that email, you will be asked to sign in to Meet the Teacher. Once signed in, follow these instructions:

Click on the green “Join Video Appointments” button

This will take you to a screen that allows you to check audio and video

Click on the blue “Proceed to Video Call” button

Click on the blue “Start Appointment” button and wait for teacher to join at the conference start time

The conference will automatically end when time runs out.

Click on the blue “Start Appointment” button for the next teacher if you have another appointment scheduled.

If you would like to invite another parent/guardian to the conference so that they can join from another device, follow these instructions:

Log in to Meet the Teacher

Go to “My Bookings”

Click on “Invite Parent/Guardian”

Meet the Teacher sign up will close at 11:55pm on Sunday 10/2. After that you must contact the school office to schedule a conference or make a change.

REQUESTING AN IN-PERSON CONFERENCE

If you want to have an in-person conference with the teachers, you must notify the teachers via email by the end of the day on Tuesday, October 4th.

RECAP

Conferences are virtual UNLESS you asked for an in-person conference.

National Custodian's Day

I want to take a minute and celebrate our custodial staff.  They are outstanding!  Under the leadership of Mr. Goodlow, this crew is the best we have ever had!  Check out these dedicated professionals.

Lake County Stem

We are excited to invite girls from around the county to participate in the Lake County STEM for Girls Conference on November 5th!  This year, the event is being hosted at Woodlawn and we hope to see MANY of our students.  To register, please visit http://www.lcstemforgirls.com/.  If you are a female who is or has worked in a STEM field, we'd love for you to join us as a presenter, please reach out to [email protected] .   We look forward to welcoming the county into our KCSD96 community!

Finally, I love this time of year.  School is in session, football at all levels is happening, the weather is cooler but not too cold, making it shorts and a sweatshirt time.  Even though the days are getting shorter, it is still light enough when I go to my car at the end of the day that I feel good when I head home.  My plan is to take advantage of this weather, go for a walk while I still can, hit the golf course and enjoy fall while it is still nice out.  At night, the firepit will get used as my Spotify plays classic rock from the 70’s. Gold.  I hope that everyone has a great weekend, it should be perfect outside.  Enjoy the fall.
