Woodlawn Principal's Blog 9/16/22

9/16/22

Another quick but really good week here at Woodlawn.  In addition to our clubs and activities, we had our Erin’s Law assembly with the students.  Each grade level saw a performance that was tailored to the grade level that was watching.  Overall, the Woodlawn students did a really good job with this assembly and the mature content matter.  Again, just a couple of items in the blog this week but some important items, so read it closely!

Student Drop Off and Pick Up

Please keep all of our students safe and stay in the drop off or pick up line.  I understand that it takes more time, but you are placing the safety of your child in danger when they are walking through the parking lot.  Help us keep everyone safe.

Fall Conferences 2022

Conference Information-SIGN UPS WILL GO LIVE on 9/19 at 6PM

Fall Family/Educator Conferences are right around the corner.

The conference dates are Thursday, October 6th from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and Friday, October 7th from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM

We will be using Meet the Teacher as an electronic sign up for conferences. A School Messenger email will be sent to families on Monday, September 19th at 6:00PM with a link to sign up for conferences.

Conferences will be held virtually using Meet the Teacher’s video conferencing platform unless parents request an in-person conference using the instructions below. After you have scheduled your conferences, you will receive an email from Meet the Teacher with a link you will use to access the video conferences.

6th Grade parents will sign up for one, 10 minute time slot with their child’s 2nd period teacher.

7th Grade parents will sign up for one, 10 minute time slot with their child’s 2nd period teacher.

8th Grade parents will sign up for one, 10 minute time slot with their child’s 4th period teacher.

If parents would like, they will also be able to sign up for a conference with their child’s PE, Health, Exploratory, Spanish teachers, and any related service provider their children see. Access will be limited for Exploratory and Spanish teachers. Exploratory teachers will only be available for students currently in the classes. Spanish teachers will only be available for students in the A Day rotation.

If you are unable to schedule a conference with a specific teacher, please remember that conferences are not the only time to communicate with teachers. Please feel free to reach out any time.

REQUESTING AN IN-PERSON CONFERENCE

If you want to have an in-person conference with the teachers, you must notify the teachers via email by the end of the day on Tuesday, October 4th.

Veterans Day - November 11th, 2022

For Veterans Day this year, we would like to put together a Woodlawn slide show of individual family members or friends who served in the military.  If you have a picture of any military members, from any era, please email a copy of the photo to myself <[email protected]> and I will include it on Veterans Day in a slide show.  Just so you know, I will confirm the email so that you know I received it.

Finally, much like Brucey from the remake of The Longest Yard, it is your time to shine.  Each and every year, the office staff comes up with a Halloween themed costume.  This year, we are going to let the Woodlawn community choose  how we dress up for Halloween.  In the past, we dressed up as Pac Man and the ghosts, farmers, birds, construction workers, shark week, artists and we honored Jim Donofrio the year he retired and dressed in Dallas Cowboys garb.  Here are a few examples of our foolishness.

This year, we are going to take the idea from one of our parents and make that our costume.  So think about it and if you come up with an idea, email me <[email protected]> and you will be recognized in this world famous blog!  Start thinking about it and shoot me your ideas!

Have a great weekend!
