Woodlawn Principal's Blog 9/9/22

9/9/22

Happy 9/9/22.  I love it when the date is a palindrome.  It is one of those things in life that just makes me happy.  Even though it was a short week, a lot was happening here.  Our spirit week was a lot of fun and we are getting into a good groove in the classrooms.  Only a couple of items in the blog this week.

Be Aware - One Chip Challenge

In the never ending Tik Tok dangerous challenges, the newest endeavor is the one chip challenge.  There is a company that sells one chip in a bag and this chip is insanely hot.  It is made of Carolina Reaper Pepper and the Scorpion Pepper which are two of the hottest peppers in the world.  Consider yourself educated.

Our outstanding Resource Officer, Mr. Essig is looking for help in decorating his office.  If your student would like to submit some artwork, they can do it between next Wednesday and the end of the month.  Check out the information below.

Finally, our children are a stark reminder of who we are and some of the personality traits we have handed off to them.  Sure, it is easy to point out the things that we admire about our children and take credit for those things.  Each of my children have a competitive streak that I believe helps them in life, especially in the workplace.  My wife is dynamite at math and the two middle children gained that skill from her.  The oldest and youngest have a way with people which, humble brag, is a strength of mine (most of the time).  Unfortunately, my youngest captured one of my traits that is unbelievably frustrating.  Without malice or bad intention, she waits until the last minute to tell me critical information.  Case in point…it is dad’s weekend at her university.  With proper notice, I would have been prepared both physically and mentally to take the hike to Bloomington-Normal.  Instead, she gave me 36 hours notice.  I am wondering if this came up at dinner and she thought, “I bet my dad would like to come to this!  I will call him  on Thursday night to make this happen.”  Now, I would get mad at her, but I am sure that this is the same shenanigans I pulled on my parents.  Calendar’s are not a strength of mine.  I would complain to my wife, but she is on a birthday weekend in Nashville for her sister’s 50 birthday party.   Last year I wrote a blog about the scam that the “Nashville weekend” encompasses.  It is a four day getaway, not a long weekend.  I digress.  Luckily, my youngest makes me laugh and I am at an age where my weekends are pretty wide open.  When you see me, I would love to hear about the traits your child possesses that make you a little crazy.  In the meantime, ISU here I come!

Have a good weekend.
