Woodlawn Principal’s Blog 4/14/22

Just a reminder… There is no school Friday, April 15th and a half day of school on Friday, April 22nd. Students will be dismissed at 11:10AM on April 22nd.

Drop-off & Pick-up in Lot 1

If you drive your child to school, it’s important to reconnect with drop-off and pick-up expectations.  Some drivers are creating an unsafe parking lot for students and staff by not upholding expectations.  Students should only be picked up along the paved sidewalk surrounding the first parking lot.  The driver should continue to pull forward until all cars have stopped toward the end of the green arrow.  Picking your child up where they choose to stand, often adds to the delays when there is space to pull up.  We appreciate your patience in the parking lot.  I attempted the pick-up line for my own child and got honked at twice.  I am in awe of those drivers that make it look seamless.

If you are picking your child up early, please come to the office and sign them out of school.

This week’s guest edition is from your future Assistant Principal- Jessica Groncki!

My educational career began, coincidentally, with Mr. Greg Grana almost 2 decades ago. As a recent graduate of Michigan State University at the time, (Go Green!) I was thrilled when Mr. Grana offered me my very first teaching job as a third grade teacher at Kildeer Countryside Elementary School. Who would have thought that one day I would be reunited to work alongside Mr. Grana as his AP? What an honor and privilege!

In my most recent years in District 96, I supported Literacy in Grades 3-5 at Country Meadows and Kildeer Countryside Elementary as an instructional coach. I’ve loved having the opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented  educators and administrators in our District 96 family, and I can’t wait to share what I have learned and  make a bigger impact here at Woodlawn Middle School, too!

I value a strong partnership between home and school as a proud parent myself to three amazing children: Ava (15), Jackson (13), and Mason (9).  I fully recognize that middle school can be a roller coaster in our children’s lives, and I am committed to being here every step of the way to make your child’s three years at Woodlawn the best academic and social experience possible. I have very big shoes to fill as Michelle Garlick continues to do extraordinary things at Country Meadows Elementary School next year, but I am ready for the challenge!

For those of you with graduating 8th graders, I wish you all the best at Stevenson High School and beyond. And for those with current 6th and 7th graders - I can’t wait to meet you and get to know you better next year- I’ve heard so many wonderful things about you already! Go Wolves!

Most sincerely,

Jessica Groncki
