Woodlawn Principal's Blog 1 - 29 - 21

Happy Friday everyone!  It was great to have students and staff in the building this week.  The 6th graders were awesome!  Sure we had an extra remote learning day sprinkled in because of the snow, but at this point I figure, “why wouldn’t that be the case!”  I am looking forward to seeing our 7th & 8th graders next week!  Good luck shoveling tomorrow night.

7th & 8th Grade Parents

If you didn’t see the in person rules and regulations, look at the blog from last week.  It will answer your every question.  I didn’t include it again this week because it is so lengthy.  It is listed under the 1/22/21 principal blog.

Last Day

This is the last day to enjoy the streak of dates palindrome. 1 29 21.  We get a second streak this year in December from 12 1 21 until 12 9 21.  Two more bonus days in December as well, 12 11 21 and 12 22 21.  Good times.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR PARENTS OF IN-PERSON LEARNERS

Parents who have children coming in must do their daily self-certification.  It significantly slows down our arrival procedures when students don't have this.

Please remember that completing the daily self-certification is a commitment you made for your child to attend in-person. If there are repeat incidences for the daily self-certification the student may need to go back to remote learning.  Please set alarm reminders for yourself.  We do not want anyone to have to move back to remote learning for this reason.

To access the required Daily Self-Certification Form, you need to log into TeacherEase each day your student will attend in person to submit self-certification.

This VIDEO gives instructions, including how to access the daily self-certification form using your cell phone (iOS or android).

If you will be using your home computer to send daily self-certification, we suggest that you bookmark the TeacherEase website. The link is: https://www.teacherease.com/common/login.aspx

Finally, This seems so appropriate that I could not let it pass without some type of recognition.  The first full moon in January has been referred to as a Wolf Moon.  As a Woodlawn fanatic myself, I have come to enjoy all things Wolves.  This can be seen by all of the wolf pictures in my office.  In doing some moon research, each moon has its own name associated with the full moon. In January, it's often called the "wolf moon," supposedly inspired by hungry wolves that howled outside of villages long ago, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.  In most years, we have 12 full moons.  Last year had 13 full moons which only added to the crazy that was 2020.  Driving to work on Thursday morning, I was amazed at how gigantic the moon looked. This happens when the moon and earth are at their closest point, making the moon look 14% bigger.  I hope that you enjoyed these fun little factoids and catch the back on of this first full moon of the season tonight.  Don’t look for it tomorrow night, you will get snowed upon.

January 28 -- Wolf moon

February 27 -- Snow moon

March 28 -- Worm moon

April 26 -- Pink moon

May 26 -- Flower moon

June 24 -- Strawberry moon

July 23 -- Buck moon

August 22 -- Sturgeon moon

September 20 -- Harvest moon

October 20 -- Hunter's moon

November 19 -- Beaver moon

December 18 -- Cold moon

As I think about it from a caveman or cave woman’s perspective, the moon was probably the first form of entertainment.  I bet that the moon didn’t disappoint its fan base down like the Packers did to me last week.  Crushing.
