Woodlawn Principal's Blog 9/25/20

Friday.  It seemed to take a while to get here, but now that it is here, I am happy.  In my conversation with staff members, they are very proud of the work that the students are doing.  The one item that I still hear about is that students need to be visible during remote learning.  Continue to stress with your student how important it is to be in class, visible and participating in class.

District Holiday

There is NO SCHOOL this Monday, September 28.

CALENDAR CHANGE:

Please note the following addition to the current school year calendar: NO SCHOOL Tues., Oct. 13 – State-Approved Remote Learning Planning Day

District 96 staff will use this day for professional development related to enhancing remote learning for our students.

Parents - Mandatory Health Forms

Please know that students who do not have the necessary health forms on file will be excluded from school on October 15th.  Please see the information below for specific details and health form deadlines.

Health form requirements vary by grade level and for new/returning students. New to District 96 (all grade levels)? See MORE INFO regarding grade-level specific health form requirements. https://www.kcsd96.org/student-services/student-health

All students entering Grade 6 must have their CERTIFICATE OF CHILD HEALTH EXAMINATION/IMMUNIZATION FORM (signed by the physician) on file in the school office by October 15, 2020. https://campussuite-storage.s3.amazonaws.com/prod/750226/93147715-c5f6-11e6-b7b7-22000bd8490f/1080350/6b6c5cff-3804-11e7-8116-124f7febbf4a/file/Child_Health_Exam_Cert_rev01-16.pdf

Family Educator Conferences

Earlier this week, notification went out for you to sign up for fall conferences.  As a district, we are only having parents sign up for conferences with the homeroom teacher of your child.  Many of my parental friends also clicked on having a conference with the PE, Health, Spanish and Exploratory teachers.  Currently, there is a wait list for those areas.  I haven’t decided how I am going to handle this situation just yet.  Stay tuned.  Click here to see the link.

Woodlawn Walk

This could be fun!  On Saturday, October the 10th, come to Woodlawn between Noon-2p.m. for a walk with friends.  Stay for 10 minutes, stay for an hour...your call.  Social distance yourself and our students will do the same (parents must be here with your student). Let's enjoy a nice fall day and use our amazing facility.  Obviously, walking with friends and families require masks, but it will give anyone who wants to visit with a friend (from 6 feet apart) the chance to see one another.

Lana Barber

I have been a bit rushed lately and I want to get Lana the attention she deserves.  Lana won a writing contest that was published in a blog.  Check out this link to the story!

Finally, you think that you know someone!  In standard fashion, I sit down at night with my computer to go through email and instead, I start down a rabbit hole and wind up with “75 This or That questions.”  Being a bit on the competitive side, I start giving my wife the stink eye (stink eye is when I am about to challenge my wife to a competition) and ask her how well she thinks she knows me.  I throw down the gauntlet and say that I can answer more questions correctly about her than she can answer about me.  I explained the contest and after a little chuckle, she quickly filled out a sheet on herself and then one about me.  I did the same about her.  Thinking that I would get a ton correct, I made our standard wager...If I lose, I will run out the next morning and get her a coffee and if I win, she goes out and grabs my favorite breakfast skillet.  As we went down the line, it became clear very early on that I was off.  Not terribly off, but off enough.  She on the other hand was spot on!  Needless to say, I was off to buy coffee in the morning.  She nailed 71 of 75 questions (94.6%) to my 64 of 75 questions (85.3%).  No skillet for me.

Here is the list of questions if you want to try it with someone.  I highly recommend you fill it out first for yourself.
