Woodlawn Principal's Blog 5/8/20

Happy Friday Woodlawn! We are quickly approaching the end of the school year and I would be remiss to wish the entire Woodlawn staff a Happy Teacher Appreciation Week.  As the leader of this school, I am so proud of this group of professionals.  They are committed to student success and are such a caring group of individuals.  Thank you to the parent community who were represented this week by the amazing work of the Woodlawn PTO.  You are hearing this a lot right now, but we are all in this together. We are all fortunate to have this group of teachers and staff working with our children.

Friday, May 15 Staff Planning Day

Next Friday is a planning day for our teachers.  Students need to look on the Schoology Lunch Course for their assignments that day.

Student Material Pick Up

Early next week a SchoolMessinger will be coming out that details how you can pick up materials for your child.

Register for the 2020–21 School Year

If you haven't already registered your new or returning District 96 student for the 2020–21 school year, please do so right away. Having an accurate enrollment count is important for anticipating staffing needs appropriately. Please tell new neighbors and friends to contact the public info coordinator [email protected] with registration questions and for info on options to delay/waive registration fees.

NEW PARENT TOUR AND COFFEE

Attention all parents of incoming 6th graders and anyone new to Woodlawn!

The PTO is sponsoring a virtual new parent tour and coffee on May 15th at 1:00pm.

Take an afternoon coffee break and watch a virtual tour of the Woodlawn building conducted by our Principal, Mr. Grana and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Garlick.

We will have a Q&A opportunity with a panel of Woodlawn parents to learn more about Woodlawn, ask questions about the middle school experience and learn how you can get involved in the upcoming school year. See the attached flyer for additional details.

Finally, it is officially a pandemic!  Many of you know that I play a game of tag with my friends throughout the month of May.  The tag game has been cancelled.  This game has gone on for 7 years and I have never been “it” at the end of the month.  For those of you who do not know, it is regular tag, no tag backs and there were six of us in the game.  Now there are five.  We used to play twice a year, unfortunately, there were two many injuries trying to get away from each other.  Yep, we show up in each other's lives and tag each other.  Not this year…  Here are some more random thoughts from me this week:

Murder Hornets?  Now I have to worry about Murder Hornets?  I cannot even begin to think about this.

Which ends first, Covid 19 or Quentin Road construction?  Discuss.

I may be cursed.  My middle school was torn down.  My high school closed and now my college has shut its doors forever.  Not a great track record.

Hiring new people for Woodlawn is exciting!  Especially someone right out of college.  Telling the other 12 candidates, not as much fun.

Finally II, Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing Woodlawn moms out there.
