Woodlawn Principal's Blog 4/24/20

Happy Friday!  We continue to move along with our remote learning and I continue to be very happy with the work being done by staff and students (if I am not pleased, you know who you are kiddo’s!).  Looks like a rainy weekend ahead.  At least we have the Bulls story on ESPN to watch on Sunday night!  As a sports fan, after watching 2 hours worth of the show last week, I was itching for more.  Check it out with the family.  There are a number of important items in the blog this week.

DOES YOUR 8TH GRADER HAVE A POSITIVE LUNCH ACCOUNT BALANCE?

Positive lunch account balances (any amount) may be transferred to a younger sibling enrolled in District 96, Grades 1–8, for the 2020–21 school year.

Make or request your transfer NO LATER THAN Mon., May 4.

To make the transfer online:

Log into your K–12 PAYMENT CENTER account and select “Transfer Funds” on the left side of the website homepage.

OR

To request a transfer if you have not yet established an account:

Send a “Transfer Request” email to Sara LaPoint in the Business Office. Include the following info: Names of BOTH the graduating 8th grader AND the remaining D96 sibling whose account should receive the transferred amount.

PTO General Meeting

Mark your calendars for the PTO General Meeting on May 8th at 10am.  It will be our first virtual general meeting! Special guest appearance by Mr. Grana who is sporting a Covid beard, making him look like the most interesting man in the world.  (OK, I am just trying to drum up attendance, it isn’t that interesting.  Looks a lot like Santa)

The PTO Blog never gets old.  I know you have time to check this out.

Future Staff Planning Days

The following dates are designated planning days for the staff.

May 4th

May 15th

May 22nd

Reminders to parents and students will be sent out regarding these planning days.

During staff planning days, students will need to look in their Schoology lunch course for their assignments.

All other days, the assignments will be in their Schoology folders by course.

Finally, last Friday hit me hard.  Right before I sat down to write this blog, the word came down that we were not returning to Woodlawn for this school year.  I met with a number of teachers and Woodlawn staff members and we were all melancholy.  Working with students, especially middle school students is fun.  They make us crazy at times, but in all honesty, they make us laugh more often than not.  The ending part of my blog is meant to be light hearted and possibly give you, at best a laugh or at least a chuckle.  Side note, my brother is 7 years older than I am and his middle name is Charles.  For a brief time I called him Chuckles.  That didn’t end well for me.  I digress... I will work hard to get my clever writing back and bring you a laugh or two.  I will leave you with this observation.  I am talking much less in public.  When I come to a 3 or 4 way stop, not in traffic, at a store, I am curious if the rules of the road apply.  No one is talking through their masks and only eye contact is happening.  Would it be rude to wave someone through the grocery store intersection?  I just shouldn’t shout out GO! Right?  These are the things that keep me up at night.

Enjoy whatever day tomorrow is.
