Woodlawn Principal's Blog 5/10/19

Another great week here at Woodlawn this week.  We had a fire drill here this morning. Our students and staff did a great job, ensuring that we will be safe in an emergency.  There are only a few things in the blog this week.

ATTENTION ALL NEW WOODLAWN PARENTS– Come to the NEW PARENT TOUR on May 14 at 10:00 a.m. This is an exciting opportunity for all parents of INCOMING 6TH GRADERS and any parents NEW to Woodlawn. The Long Awaited-Notice of Scheduled Weed Control Treatment

On Sat., May 11, 2019, the District's landscape contractor will treat grassy areas adjacent to all District properties. (The back-up date for weather delay is Sat., May 18, 2019.)

The District uses Integrated Pest Management–a program that combines preventive techniques, non-chemical methods (such as bait traps), and the appropriate use of pesticides (with a preference for products least harmful to human health and the environment).

Please direct questions regarding this application to the District Director of Facilities and Transportation Sam Miranda, 847.459.4260.

**I know that we have to do this from a legal standpoint, and maybe there are those people who are just dying to know about it, so if that is you...enjoy.

Lloyd Bachrach

Our 8th graders were inspired today by Mr. Lloyd Bachrach and his assembly, YES YOU CAN!  Parents, ask your 8th grader about Lloyd.  He has had an incredible journey.

Finally, I want to wish every mom out there a Happy Mother’s Day. You deserve the recognition for more than just a day, but it is a start. There is no one out there who loves you like mom.  I may not have been the best baseball player on any team I ever played for, but my uniform was always squeaky clean and I looked like the best player out there. My brother won awards for his artistic skills, yet my mom displayed my crummy ceramic pot next to his amazing sculpture.  My mom believed that you shouldn’t stress about money because in her words, “It is only paper”. Mom made an incredible turkey every Thanksgiving and celebrated Christmas like no other. Much like many of the moms I know through Woodlawn, she donated her time, energy and skills to the school, ensuring that I had a positive experience.  This Mother’s Day, I hope that every mom gets a ridiculously long hug from their children. I also hope that you get to give mom one of those same hugs. I would if I could.

Finally 2, Tag Update.  I crashed a party at one of my buddies house last Friday night around 10p.m.  5 couples were sitting in the living room when I snuck in through their garage entrance and tagged my buddy as they were playing a Pictionary type of game.  Not it.
