Finally,  the term “humble brag” has been introduced to my home.  My oldest son points out these humble brag moments when someone is telling a story that shines a spotlight on themselves.  This term first came about when I was together with my high school friends, we started talking about baseball games that we played in and how we performed in those games.  It is so ironic that I can tell you who the pitcher was, where we played a game and what the count was in the 7th inning of a baseball game back in 1982, but I have no idea what I had for dinner last night.  Anyways, our humble brags continued and we had a great time talking about our past. Fast forward to now, I embrace the humble brags of my children at the dinner table. I want to know what they did well and how it impacted their day.  Here at Woodlawn, I absolutely love it when a student tells me a positive story about themselves. I have really learned to embrace the humble brag and I want our students and staff to feel that it is alright to talk about what we do well.  The next time you are at the dinner table, challenge your child to give you a humble brag about school, their friends or anything else that is making their lives better. I then recommend that you share some humble brags about yourself. I know it will bring you all together.

Have a great weekend.
