Woodlawn Principal's Blog 6/1/18

The school year has officially over! It was a great school year and I am so proud of the work we did as an entire school community. Thank you to everyone for supporting Woodlawn and all that we believe in related to education, social interaction and collaboration. I hope that everyone has a great summer.

From Shannon, Lance and Eric Vondrak

Dear Woodlawn family-

There aren’t enough words to express how thankful we are for the love and support this community showed us this year. Rachel was very happy at Woodlawn and I understand why. I’ve come to realize even more than before what a special place it is-- it’s not just a school but a family. Eric will be moving on to Stevenson but Woodlawn will always be dear to us and we will visit.

Thank you again.

Much love,

Shannon, Lance and Eric

Fond Farewell and Best Wishes, Officer Paul

Buffalo Grove Police Department School Resource Officer Cliff Paul will be leaving District 96 and moving out of state at the close of this school year. Officer Paul is well known to our students and staff and a familiar friendly face in our school family. We will miss him and we wish him the best! The Buffalo Grove Police Department invites Officer Paul's family and community friends to attend a brief ceremony in his honor on Wed., June 13, at 2 PM. The police department is located at 46 Raupp Boulevard, Buffalo Grove.

Graduation

We had a very nice graduation ceremony this year.  The parents were extremely well behaved and the students were a little rambunctious but overall, it was a great day.

iPad Policy Change for 2018-19

There is a district wide change in our damaged iPad policy heading into next year. You have been getting updates from most of the year related to broken iPads at Woodlawn.  Here is the statement going to all schools for next year.

The end of the year is a busy time for everyone, but it's always good to get a head start and thinking next year. The policy concerning iPad damage will be different next year. This change is reflected on the flyer below and in greater detail in the 2018-19 Student Handbook. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Required Summer Reading

School District 96 recognizes that summer reading is critically important for a student's continued academic growth.

Students entering Grade 6 or 7 or 8 in the 2018–19 school year have a required summer reading assignment that is due on the first day of school.

Please read this PARENT LETTER for more info.

Your student must read at least ONE BOOK from The Power of One SUMMER READING LIST.

CLICK ON THIS LINK (CLICK HERE FOR SPANISH) for details of the Middle School Summer Reading Assignment and the Parental Acknowledgment Form, to be signed by the student and his or her parent or guardian.

Please contact me with any questions.

Finally, the end of the school year is upon us.  It is always fun to see the students storm out of the building like they have just been released from captivity.  The building will get very quiet as Mrs. Bird, Mr. Frishman and I create the schedule. The summer always goes by quickly and the magic of maturity happens for our crazy 7th graders who become much calmer 8th graders.  I wish everyone the best and hope you are able to relax for a bit.

Tag- although there was a flurry of action, we did not have my favorite finish to our tag game.  That happened a couple of years ago. One of my friends was heading to a wedding in Seattle when he was followed to airport, my other buddy jumped on the same long term parking bus, waited until my other friend went into the security line and was tagged right before he left for Seattle.  I know what you are wondering….No I am not it.
