These students have been recognized by the staff for being leaders, role models, supportive peers, brave, and positive.

What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
Art: We’re moving along in art!  6th grade is working on clay elephants. They just finished creating a composition of rhythm, repetition, and movement using tissue paper.   7th grade is making clay coil pots. They just finished shading spheres and cubes in 1 and 2 point perspectives.  8th grade is painting trees with acrylic paints.  They just finished creating rhythm, repetition, and movement with variations of a line/motif.

Music: In Music class, we have been discussing the difference between the functions of both melody and harmony. All grades have been exploring these concepts through the use of an instrument. In 6th grade, students have been playing pianos and learning how to independently practice their music. In 7th grade, students have been playing the guitar and learning how to accompany someone while strumming multiple chords. 8th graders have been working on piano to further develop their musicianship skills from previous years in music. Each grade is working towards a performance project where they will present a song of their choice for the class.

TASOL: This month in TASOL, the 7th and 8th grade students are working on multiple recipes in the kitchens. They are learning new cooking techniques and familiarizing themselves with different utensils and cooking tools. They will continue to focus on not only kitchen safety but also how to keep the food safe when cooking and storing.  Students will be continuing to work in the kitchens for the remainder of the trimester. Sixth graders completed their own resumes in the career unit. They have started on their sewing projects, which consist of a pillow with detail using three different stitches.  Later this month, the 6th-grade students will start working in the kitchens with introductory recipes.

Band: The band students are currently practicing for the final concert of the year. Our concert will be on Tuesday, May 6th. The band students will perform for both concerts, however, we are asking that Twin Groves parents only come to the later concert. Of course, if you have a student in the 5th grade, please come to both concerts. The first concert will feature 5th-grade students and then selections from the Twin Groves bands. The second concert will feature only the Twin Groves bands and all of their selections for the concert. We will also honor our 8th-grade students in the concert.

In 6th grade, the students are preparing for the concert and working on the major scales they will need to perform for entrance into the honor band. The 7th and 8th grade students are working on their repertoire for the concert and the elementary school band tour on May 20. The percussionists are working their way through the Mark Wessels snare drum book.

Orchestra: Spring is a busy time for our orchestra students! 6th Grade Orchestra students are currently learning new notes and scales. 7th Grade Orchestra students are working on their upcoming benchmark. 8th Grade Orchestra students are continuing to work on two octave scales.

All orchestras are preparing for our upcoming Spring Concert on Thursday, May 8th at 7 pm at Twin Groves. On Friday, May 16th, during the school day, the 8th Grade Orchestra and select 7th Grade Orchestra students will be going on tour to perform for Grades 3-5 at Ivy Hall and Prairie. In addition, this year the orchestra will be performing at the 8th Grade Graduation on Tuesday, May 27th at 8 pm. 7th Grade Orchestra students, select 6th Grade Orchestra students, and select Band students will be performing.
