Healthy Coping Strategies
In Middle School we know that our students are going through a variety of challenges: academic, social, and personal growth.  Although most of these are very exciting, they can also create stress and anxiety in our teens.  At Twin Groves, we often talk to the students about positive coping skills or strategies.   These are techniques or actions that can help your student handle challenging emotions and/or situations.  It is important for our students to have healthy coping strategies that they can use to calm themselves down when they are nervous, angry, or stressed.  It often takes practice to use these strategies and find the ones that actually work to calm your student down.

Here is a list of some healthy coping strategies that we often recommend to our students:
-Deep breathing and mindfulness
-Talking to a trusted friend, teacher, or family member
-Exercising or engaging in a hobby
-Writing in a journal
-Practicing positive self-talk
-Listening to music
-Going on a walk
-Getting fresh air
-Make a list of things you are grateful for
-Read a book
-Play with a pet
-Look at a photo album/pictures
-Play an instrument

The deadline for the dental examination is no later than May 15 of the current school year. Proof of this required dental examination must have been completed within eighteen months prior to the May 15 deadline.

If you haven’t already done so, please make an appointment with your child’s dentist for a dental examination, have him and/or her complete the required form, and return it to your child’s school nurse.
