What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
PE: It’s hard to believe we are now in Tri 3 and have been seeing some nicer weather! We have been working hard and having fun in PE. We wrapped up our Dance Unit, in which we were REALLY impressed with all of the hard work our students put in.. We also just finished up our Team Handball unit, where students choose between our rec league and pro league. As a reminder, this allows students to choose the best place for themselves based on skill, level of competitiveness, and interest with the hope that this will increase engagement, participation, and enjoyment. Next week, we will begin our volleyball unit with this same structure. In the midst of all these things, we have been continuing to work with heart rate monitors on fitness days as well as integrating FitnessGram Fitness testing for students. On Monday, students in Group B will rotate to Health, and students in Group A will return to PE.
Reminder: As the weather gets nicer and we have the opportunity to be outside during PE, please help remind your student to keep a sweatshirt in their PE locker so they always have it if they need to.
Health: The sixth-grade students are learning about the body systems and how they are interconnected. Students have gained insights about hygiene and how to keep their bodies clean. Sixth graders have also learned about the physical, social, and emotional changes that happen when they go through puberty. The seventh graders have been learning about drug education which includes addiction and treatment options. Students also worked on a research project to further enhance their knowledge of specific drugs. The eighth graders have been studying communicable and non-communicable diseases. Students have been learning about vaccines and how health insurance works. Students also had a refresher course on SOS (Signs of Suicide) with the help of our amazing social workers.
Spanish: In 6th grade Spanish we are finishing a unit on describing ourselves and others both physically and by personality and are ready to move on to our last unit on family. The 7th graders have already started their last unit on places they go in their lives using the verb IR. The 8th graders will finish the year out talking about clothing and fashion and what they and others wear.
OPEN NOW: *5Essentials Survey for Parents/Guardians*
Now through March 28th, KCSD96 invites you to share your thoughts on the inner workings of your child’s school. On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago.
As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. Your participation will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide our improvement. Parent identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
Please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact UChicago Impact Survey Support at 1-866-440-1874 or [email protected].
