What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
PE: Time flies when you’re having fun and we are having a lot of it in PE-–We can’t believe it is already October! We have been very busy with just having finished our soccer unit where students had a choice of participating in our “Pro” league or our “Rec” league, based on their ability and interest. We have also been working extremely hard on running/cardio days where students work on their cardiovascular endurance. Many students have been working hard and making great progress.
This week we transitioned Group C to Health while the other students began their football unit, where students had the opportunity to choose between 3 leagues/levels: Pro, Intermediate, or Rec. We are off to a great start and look forward to another fun and engaging unit. We will continue our cardio days as well as Friday “choice days” that students earn throughout the week.
PLEASE NOTE: We will continue to go outside for class activities as long as the weather allows us to. As the weather is beginning to shift, we encourage all students to either (A) purchase/wear Twin Groves PE sweatshirt and sweatpants through the PTO or (B) bring sweatpants and a sweatshirt to keep in their PE locker that they can throw on over their PE shirt and shorts.
Health: In the first rotation for health 6th graders will be diving into decision-making and how to make good decisions. We will look at the impact of their decisions on others and how they can improve their decision-making. Seventh graders will be investigating the health triangle and the three aspects of it. We will first look into self-esteem and goal setting as we begin this first trimester. Eighth graders will be looking into human sexuality this rotation. We will be discussing the reproductive systems, contraception, abstinence, sexually transmitted infections, the “Safe Haven” law, sexting laws, and sexual harassment.
Spanish: In 6th grade Spanish, we have finished our opening unit on greetings and have studied cognates (words that look and sound like English), the alphabet and Spanish pronunciation using the vowels. We are moving on to the calendar next. In 7th grade Spanish, we are in the middle of a school unit where we are talking about our classes, our teachers, and the items we need at school. We will soon review subject pronouns and begin learning AR verbs. In 8th grade Spanish, we are nearing the end of a unit about what we enjoy doing in our free time and how to invite others to participate with us. We are excited to be working on a comic strip competition where students will be voting for the best storyline and artwork.
