“So What is Your Plan?”
These five words can be effective to use with students to help them problem solve for themselves, determine what will work for them, and create something that they are more likely to commit to do. Parents may need to do some modeling or offer some suggestions at times but look at the following scenarios below to see how this can work.
A student does not understand the math concepts being taught in class. The parent asks, “So what is your plan?” If the child has no idea, the parent may have to offer some suggestions like asking questions, going in for help, watching Khan Academy videos, etc But then the student should choose a plan to execute.
A student is not getting along with a friend. The parent asks, “So what is your plan?” Again if the child has no idea, the parent can offer some suggestions, but the child should ultimately make the decision of what to do.
This method creates communication between parent and child but also allows the student to develop agency and problem-solving skills.
Upcoming Fire Drill
On Monday. September 23rd, Twin Groves will be conducting a Fire Drill. Students will be evacuating the building during the drill. If the weather does not cooperate, we will reschedule the drill and communicate the rescheduled drill date.
Preparing Our Middle Schoolers for Responsible Digital Lives
With technology playing a significant role in our students’ lives, it is important they understand how to navigate the digital world safely and ethically. To best support our students in developing these lifelong skills, KCSD96 is implementing the Common Sense Digital Citizenship Lessons throughout the year during Flex. Students will explore topics like managing their digital footprint, understanding privacy settings, and recognizing positive and negative online behaviors.
Common Sense is a widely-used resource used by school districts across the country, including in our region. We encourage you to discuss these lessons with your child and help them apply these principles at home. More details about the curriculum can be found at the Common Sense Digital Citizenship Website.
Together, we can support our students in becoming responsible and confident digital citizens. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jessica Barnes at [email protected].
