What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
Spanish:
All Spanish students in 6th-8th grade have been completing Manía Musical de Marzo - March Music Madness since the beginning of March. Every day students listened to 2 Spanish songs and voted for their favorite. In round 2 we delved deeper into our Elite 8 by learning more about each artist, what Spanish-speaking country they are from, and discussing the lyrics. In round 3 we listened to the live performances of our Final Four songs. For the championship, we checked out the library and combined Murphy, Pinta, and Tristano’s classes together to celebrate. We watched the songs, voted, played trivia games about the songs and artists, and played a Name That Tune game together. The winner is….. Chango by Paulo Londra! The runner up was Oxígeno by Álvaro Soler. Ask your student about the bracket and see which of the 16 songs was their favorite!
6th-grade students are currently working on learning the 6 forms of the verb ser - to be in order to be able to describe themselves and others using personality and physical characteristic adjectives. We will finish up this topic in the next two weeks with an interpretive reading quiz and a presentational writing quiz over the main questions of the unit. Before the end of the year we will add in family vocabulary and combine those vocabulary phrases with our adjectives vocabulary to describe our family members, friends, and pets.
7th-grade students are finishing up their work on conjugating er and ir ending verbs in the present tense. In the next couple of weeks, we will be working on a summative interpersonal speaking assessment. Students will meet with their teacher 1 on 1 to answer some of our main questions from the year. While they are waiting to complete the assessment they will start working on learning our last unit of vocabulary: ¿Adónde vas? - Where are you going? Students will discuss the places they go, what they do there, and who they are going with. To end the year 7th-grade students will complete a mini-cultural unit on Selena Quintanilla.
8th-grade students recently finished up our Mi Casa Ideal - My Ideal House video presentation project/assessment. Ask your student to show you their finished product! We are now moving on to our last unit of Spanish 1: La compra - shopping. Students are working on discussing what they wear, shop for, want to buy, etc. as well as reviewing weather, seasons, and numbers 0-100 while adding higher numbers 101-1000. We will add in stem-changing verbs that follow the e→ie pattern and some students may choose to dabble in learning about the preterite past tense. Students will have an interpretive listening quiz next week and then presentational writing over the main questions of the shopping unit. Students will end the year with a mini-cultural unit using the move McFarland USA to lead our cultural discussion.

Attention 7th Grade Parents
It has come to my attention that there is some confusion regarding a Washington DC trip planned for next February, intended for the current 7th graders and next year's 8th graders. It's important to clarify that this trip is not and has never been a school-sponsored event. Consequently, the district does not distribute information directly to parents regarding this trip.
The company that hosts this trip is called WorldStrides.
I have become aware that there is information about the trip being advertised on Facebook. Please look at the District 96 Moms and Dads Facebook page for more information.
If you have any questions or need further information, please reach out to the school office at 847-821-8946.

Newcomer Coffee & Conversation is May 6
District 96 is hosting a spring Newcomer Coffee & Conversation at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, in the Ivy Hall Mat Room.

For planning purposes, attendees are asked to fill out this form: https://forms.gle/gmJJ6sD3uKsTzMa59.

The sign-up deadline is May 2.

This is an event only for parents and guardians.

The Newcomer Coffee & Conversation is an informal opportunity for parents and guardians of newly registered students to ask questions and share their thoughts ~ with other parents and staff ~ about their experiences in the district. These parents might be experiencing the District’s social customs and teaching practices for the first time, just as their students have, and can glean from the experiences of others.

If you missed the last Newcomer Coffee in December, we encourage you to attend this conversation. You are welcome to be a part of this conversation even if you were able to attend the event, so we can hear how you are adjusting to the D96 culture.

Coffee and other refreshments will be served.
Questions?  Contact Lubna K. Andrabi, D96’s Community Parent Liaison, @ [email protected] or 847.459.4260, ext. 8136.

6th Grade Dental Forms Needed
Dear Parents/Guardians of District 96 6th Grade Students:

Please note that your child’s completed dental examination is now due, per Illinois school law. The deadline for the dental examination is no later than May 15 of the current school year.  Proof of this required dental examination must have been completed within eighteen months prior to the May 15 deadline.
If you haven’t already done so, please make an appointment with your child’s dentist for a dental examination, have him and/or her complete the required form, and return it to your child’s school nurse.

State of Illinois Proof of Dental Examination Form
In the event that you are unable to fulfill this requirement, the state of Illinois does permit a waiver of the examination.

State of Illinois Dental Waiver Form
Dental examination forms, as well as dental waiver forms, can be downloaded from the District’s website.

If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Borzych at [email protected] or call the Twin Groves office at 847-821-8946.
