What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
PE: It’s hard to believe we are now in Tri 3!  We have been working hard and having fun in PE. We wrapped up our Dance Unit, in which we were REALLY impressed with all of the hard work our students put into creating their routine.  Performance days were a blast and students were proud to show off their final product.  It was one of our best dance units to date!  Great job TG!  We are now underway with our volleyball unit and students were able to choose between a “professional” and a “recreational” league once again. Students in the pro league moved quickly into gameplay while the rec league worked on skills and progressed their way into game play.  On Monday, students in Group B will rotate to Health, and students in Group A will return to PE for our Team Handball unit, where students will, again, have a choice between a Rec and a Pro league.

We want to remind students and parents that PE uniforms should be coming home to be washed at the end of the week. We also ask that uniforms be returned at the beginning of the week. We are noticing more students needing to use rental uniforms for multiple days in a row. We ask that all parents partner with us to get uniforms cleaned and ready to wear every week.  We also want to remind everyone that gym shoes are required for PE and that Crocs or Slides should not be worn during our activities

Health: The sixth-grade students are learning about the body systems and how they are interconnected. Students have gained insights about hygiene and how to keep their bodies clean.  Sixth graders have also learned about the physical, social, and emotional changes that happen when they go through puberty.  The seventh graders have been learning about drug education which includes addiction and treatment options. Students also worked on a research project to further enhance their knowledge of specific drugs.  The eighth graders have been studying communicable and non-communicable diseases.  Students have been learning about vaccines and how health insurance works.  Students also had a refresher course on SOS (Signs of Suicide) with the help of our amazing social workers.

Music: Welcome to Music! This month we started our Bucket Drumming unit in 6-8th grade. We focused on the fundamentals of music by breaking down the difference between beat and rhythm. The students then applied that knowledge to the drum by practicing simple and complex rhythms on various parts of the bucket. 6th graders worked on playing these patterns together and performing them as an ensemble. 7th graders investigated how to accompany someone by playing the drums to the beat of a song. 8th graders focused on independence as a performers as they each played their own rhythmic patterns while different combinations were being played. Looking forward to a great Trimester!

TASOL: Welcome to TASOL for Trimester 3! This month in TASOL we are working on laundry and career choices for 7th and 8th grade. All students have investigated the five steps of laundry and will complete a laundry assignment at home to finish the unit. Students have been exploring their interests, skills, and abilities. They will use these surveys to choose a career to research and create a presentation for the class after spring break. In 6th grade, we looked at the family functions and created a family crest to represent those functions within each individual's family.  Students are currently exploring different career clusters and will begin creating a resume.

Parents, Twin Groves NEEDS YOUR HELP!!! Please click THIS LINK and take the 5Essentials Survey for Parents/Guardians.
Twin Groves would like to increase parent participation. Currently, Twin Groves is only at a participation rate of 23% for parents.
As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. Your participation will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide our improvement. Parent identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The window to complete the survey closes on March 29th. Thank you in advance!

Spring Family/Educator Conferences
Spring Family/Educator Conferences are right around the corner. The conference dates are Thursday, March 21st, from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and Friday, March 22nd, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

We will be using Meet the Teacher as an electronic sign up for conferences. A School Messenger email was sent to families on Tuesday, March 5th at 5:00PM with a link to sign up for conferences.

Conferences will be held virtually using Meet the Teacher’s video conferencing platform unless parents request an in-person conference using the instructions bolded at the end of this message. After you have scheduled your conferences, you will receive an email from Meet the Teacher with a link you will use to access the video conferences.

Middle school parents will have the option to sign up with one core content teacher (see below) and pertinent exploratory/PE teachers. Please note: Students on the B-Day schedule will have their Spanish teachers available during this round of conferences. Available Middle School Core Teachers:
6th Grade: 3rd Period Teacher
7th Grade: 2nd Period Teacher
8th Grade: 4th Period Teacher

If you are unable to schedule a conference with a specific teacher, please remember that conferences are not the only time to communicate with teachers. Please feel free to reach out at any time.

REQUESTING AN IN-PERSON CONFERENCE
