What’s happening at TG?
Spanish: Spanish homework reminder: All Spanish students should be studying 5-10 minutes a night on conjuguemos.com or using study links in Schoology.
6th-grade students have recently finished working on understanding basic classroom commands (stand up, get out a piece of paper, you need a pencil, etc.) in order for us to stay in the target language more in class. We have also recently finished working on recognizing cognates between English and Spanish - these are the words that look alike in two languages and help us with comprehension. Next up we are working on the Spanish alphabet and basic pronunciation for a few days. Lastly, we will start working on calendar questions like: When is your birthday?, How old are you?, What is the date today?, and What day is it today?
7th grade students recently finished their Super 5 review special person interviews unit working through the 5 most frequently used verbs and all the questions we learned last year with these verbs. They recently finished a writing assessment where they had to write a letter introducing themselves with these questions. Next, we are working on reviewing numbers 0-31 and adding numbers 32-100 before we move on to a new topic - conjugating and communicating with AR verbs in the present tense.
8th grade Spanish students are finishing up their Super 7 special person interviews unit which worked on the 7 most frequently used verbs in Spanish. We interviewed their classmates and reviewed how to answer all the questions for 6th and 7th grade that we learned with these verbs. This week students are taking their writing assessment where they are writing a letter introducing themselves and answering these questions. Next, we will be working on an interpersonal speaking assessment where they will need to answer questions about themselves from the unit as well.

Band: The smart music program has been rolled out. Students need to turn in at least 6 exercises by October 27 in order to get a “3” on learner responsibilities. Students should be encouraged to work on smart music throughout the whole month so they will pass the expected exercises and not have too many to do in the last week.  We have also put students into the Honor Band or the Concert Band. Students are expected to come to at least 4 rehearsals of their band in the month of October. Students can plan when they come to band but need to make sure they meet the minimum requirements.

The band is currently working on rhythms, scales, and repertoire so the students can have the necessary skills needed for a successful year. We are also composing music in the 7th and 8th grade classes. This is a big preparation time for the concert season ahead.

Lake County STEM for Girls Conference
We are excited to share that the Lake County STEM for Girls Conference is back!  The conference hosts women from various STEM fields who work with the attending students by engaging in hands-on activities with real-world applications. Each session is interactive and inspiring! Girls in grades 6th-8th are invited to attend.
We have a STEM fair (with lots of goodies) and also invite parents/guardians to attend adult sessions to learn more about saving for college, how to support students in high school academic paths and mindfulness. We have a fantastic keynote and an enthusiastic closing for both students and parents!
This year the conference is being held at Vernon Hills High School on November 4th, 2023.   We've attached a flyer to this email and can't wait to hear how it goes when your child attends.
Registration is open!
