What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
Spanish: Things are wrapping up nicely in Spanish class! 6th-grade students completed their final interpretive reading over Family and personal descriptions. This week students are working on creating a presentation about family and describing themselves and others.
7th-grade students are finishing up their last standard scores as well with a final interpretive and their first scored interpersonal conversation about food. We will be ending the year with a mini-movie unit on Selena Quintanilla. Have a great Summer 6th and 7th grade!
8th-grade students are finishing their unit on shopping, clothing, and accessories or a pilot reading a Spanish novel in small groups. We are so proud of our 8th-grade students for how far they have come in their Spanish knowledge. Good luck at Stevenson!

Band: We have had a great end-of-the-year month. The students had a great band tour to the elementary schools on May 12 and our band extravaganza was a lot of fun with the students performing well. Shout out to all of our Ironmen and Ironwomen who made this concert superb because of their hard work.

We have had an outstanding class of 8th-grade students this year and we will sincerely miss each one of them. We are sending an extremely talented group of students to the Stevenson Band program who are ready for the rigor they will face. I have enjoyed each student and will miss them and their families.

We are welcoming in an equally great group of 6th-grade students who will help fill the shoes of the ones we are graduating.

The band registration is open for next year. Please follow this link to sign up for band. https://tinyurl.com/TG-Band-23-24

Perhaps there are some current 6th and 7th-grade students that have not been in band but would like to learn a band instrument next year and be in the band. We have room for you and would love to teach you a band instrument and give you the opportunity to make beautiful music. If this is you, please sign up on the above link and then send me an email so I can help you get an instrument. We have had success with starting students in 7th and 8th grade. The students have to work hard, but with hard work, they can achieve their dream. This year, one of our graduating students started her instrument in 7th grade. She worked so hard that she accomplished being in the District Honor Band, a truly great feat. Nothing is impossible when you work hard. My email is: [email protected]

Orchestra: We are wrapping things up in Orchestra!

If your child is playing in the Graduation Orchestra, just a reminder about our upcoming rehearsal/performance:

I am so proud of all of the students and their progress this year! Best of luck to our graduating 8th Graders and I look forward to another great year in Orchestra!

REFUND OF 8th GRADERS’ POSITIVE MEAL ACCOUNT BALANCES
Positive meal account balances for graduating 8th graders of $5 or more will automatically be refunded at the conclusion of the school year. Parents wishing to transfer remaining balances to siblings still in D96 on the K12PaymentCenter.com should do so by Friday, June 2nd.  Refund checks will be mailed by District Business Office staff Wednesday, June 14th, to the home address on record.

Summer Reading
This summer, we want students to experience the pure joy of reading. Since the purpose of summer reading is to help foster a love of reading, we strongly feel that students should read a book that is of high interest to them and close to the difficulty level of text they would encounter during the school year.
Incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be completing a summer reading assignment. This assignment will be shared in current 5th-grade, 6th-grade, and 7th-grade classes. This assignment contains two parts: (1) Read a book! (2) Write a letter to your next year’s language arts teacher.  The assignment is available on the district website

Report Cards
Trimester 3 report cards will be available on TeacherEase (School Insight) at 3:00 pm on Monday, June 5th.

End-of-Year Technology Information
Aside from a few exceptions (defined below) all students will KEEP their District 96 technology (iPad, iPad Case, Charging Cable, Charging Brick, and Logitech Crayon) over the summer and will be expected to return with it at the beginning of the 23-24 school year. It will be the student’s responsibility to come to school next year with all of their technology items. Should parents have technology-related questions over the summer, they can get a hold of us at [email protected]

Exceptions:
-All EC student iPads at Willow Grove will be collected at the end of the school year. We will redeploy class sets at the start of the 23-24 school year.
-All 8th-grade student iPads will be collected on the morning of Wednesday, May 24th at both middle schools.
-Any student who is confirmed not returning to District 96 for the 23-24 school year will need to turn in their technology items on the last day of school.
-Any student who unenrolls from District 96 (during the school year or during the summer) is required to turn in their technology items as soon as possible after they confirm unenrollment, even if families indicate they are planning to return at a later date, District 96 technology items should be collected.

End-of-Year Staff Gifts
We are bringing back  GiftCrowd for end-of-year gifts, a gifting site that allows families to contribute to group gifts.  Use the link and select the teachers and staff you would like to join a gift for.  You only need to fill one cart and check out once.

Teachers and staff will get an email at the end of the last school day advising that they received a group gift. They will only be advised of the total gift amount and who contributed, not the individual contribution amounts. They will then have a large selection of gift cards they can choose from. Neither the staff nor the families pay a fee for the use of this service.
