What’s Happening at Twin Groves?
PE: In PE, we administered an interest survey to see what units the kids wanted to participate in for the remainder of the year.   The top 2 choices on this survey were badminton and volleyball, so we gave students in rotation B the choice between these two units.  We completed this unit on Tuesday and the kids really enjoyed having a say in their activity.  We also continued our fitness days and finally had the chance to go outside last week for our cardio day competition and mile run!  We hope to be outside as much as possible in the last stretch of the school year.  This week, Group B transitioned back to PE and Group C rotated back to Health.  Following the student interest survey, our next unit will be Team Handball, with the option for students to participate in either a Pro league or a Rec league.  We will also continue our fitness activities and use our heart rate monitors to collect student data.

Health: The sixth-grade students are learning about the body systems and how they are interconnected. Students have gained insights into hygiene and how to keep their bodies clean.  Sixth graders have also learned about the physical, social, and emotional changes that happen when they go through puberty.  The seventh graders have been learning about drug education which includes addiction and treatment options. Students also worked on a research project to further enhance their knowledge of specific drugs.  The eighth graders have been studying communicable and non-communicable diseases.  Students have been learning about vaccines and how health insurance works.  Students also had a refresher course on SOS (Signs of Suicide) with the help of our amazing social workers.

Art: We just finished up the first of three projects in each grade level. Clay is next for everyone!  6th grade finished paper mache figures and is now using clay to mold frogs or lizards.  7th grade finished printmaking and is using clay to make coil vessels.  8th grade finished painting quotes and is now drawing portraits to prepare for molding a bust out of clay.

Music: All grades have been working on the guitar unit. 6th Grade focused on melody and reading TAB. 7th Grade started reading TAB and is now shifting to half chords, and 8th Grade is working on full chords and accompaniment. All grades will finish composing a short melody and transcribing it from guitar TAB to keyboard staff notation because we will be headed into the keyboard unit for the remainder of the year.

TASOL: The 7th and 8th-grade students will be learning how to be safe in the kitchens and keep our food safe when preparing and storing. They have completed a few cooking labs and will continue to cook on a regular basis through the end of the year.  Later this month, students will complete a mini-unit on consumerism. Students will look at how to make purchases using informative decision-making procedures. Sixth grade has finished a basic money management skills and vocabulary unit. Students have started their small sewing projects.
