Principal's Message - November 4, 2022

11/4/22

Just a reminder…there is no school on Tuesday, November 8th. We will see everyone on Wednesday, November 9th.

Thank you, TG PTO! The Staff enjoyed the spooky Halloween Cereal Bar on Monday! It was a fun way to start the week!

What’s Happening at Twin?

PE: It’s hard to believe we are getting to the end of the 1st trimester! We have been working hard and having fun in PE. We wrapped up a flag football unit and unfortunately the weather was not very nice to us during most of the unit. We did however play some modified football games like ultimate football and capture the football inside during this time. We are now underway with our volleyball unit and students are able to choose between a “professional” and a “recreational” league once again. Students in the pro league have started gameplay while the rec league is working on skills in hopes to start gameplay next week. We want to remind students and parents that PE uniforms should be coming home to be washed at the end of the week. We also ask that uniforms be returned at the beginning of the week. We are noticing more students needing to use rental uniforms for multiple days in a row. We ask that all parents partner with us to get uniforms cleaned and ready to wear every week. Also, if your student brings home a PE uniform that says “TG” on it please send this back with your student as this is a rental uniform that belongs to the school.

Health:  In health’s first rotation, 6th graders will dive into decision-making and making good decisions.  We will look at the impact of their decisions on others and how they can improve their decision-making. Seventh graders will be investigating the three aspects of the health triangle.  As we begin this first trimester, we will first look into self-esteem and goal setting.  Eighth graders will be looking into human sexuality this rotation.  We will discuss the reproductive systems, contraception including abstinence, sexually transmitted infections, the “Safe Haven” law, sexting laws, and sexual harassment.

Art: We are in 3D mode.  The 6th Graders just finished clay lizards and frogs and are completing paper mache figures.  The 7th graders just finished clay coil pots and are now completing wood sculptures.  The 8th grade is finishing up their clay busts and a surreal collage.  We’ve had a lot of fun and have been learning a lot of skills and techniques that can be used in so many different life and school situations. Good luck in music!

Music: As our trimester winds down,  students have been working on the keyboard. 6th grade focused on melody, 7th Grade focused on 12 Bar Blues, and 8th Grade learned to play melody and chords together. We will finish up with the composition. The 8th Grade will create an accompaniment to a poem they will read, the 7th Grade will create improvisation for the 12 Bar Blues, and the 6th Grade will create different melodies using a music software program.

TASOL: We have been cooking in TASOL! Students in 7th and 8th grade have been busy in the kitchens. We have made some great recipes including cinnamon swirls, baking powder biscuits, stir fry vegetable ramen, lemonade cookies, and many more. As the trimester comes to an end, students will be creating a presentation for their Cooking at Home assignment. Sixth grade finished their sewing projects. They have been in the kitchens making smoothies, french toast, pizza, and cookies. Take some time this fall and cook in the kitchen with your students. They love to try new recipes and it is the perfect way to spend quality time with your students. Trimester 2 will start on November 14. All TASOL students will rotate to Art.
