What’s Happening at Twin?
Spanish
In 6th grade Spanish, the students have finished their unit on cognates and are moving on to learn how to run our classroom in Spanish. They will celebrate and learn about Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at the end of the month. In 7th grade Spanish, the students recently gave a presentation to the class on their favorite class. They will soon move on to review subject pronouns before learning new grammar. In 8th grade, the students are in the middle of a weather unit. They are reviewing all of their calendar vocabulary as we learn about seasons and weather expressions.
Band
Our 8th grade students had a great time at the Stevenson Football game on Friday, September 30. The students memorized the Stevenson Victory March and performed well in the halftime performance. All of the students said they enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to the Stevenson band program next year. It was fun for me to see several of our former students playing key roles in the band program at Stevenson.
All of the bands are working on scales, tone production, and now beginning to participate in small ensembles. This month we will be selecting music for ensembles and solos to be performed in class at the beginning of February. If students desire to take these pieces to contest on the first Saturday of February, then that option is open. Families will need to sign up for solo/ ensemble contest in November. I hope we will have many band students participate in the solo/ ensemble contest in February.
Our Fall concert is Monday, Dec 12, 2022. All TG bands will be playing in that concert.
Orchestra
It has been a busy month in Orchestra! 6th Graders are working on counting and clapping new rhythms. 7th Graders are continuing to work on shifting to 3rd position and 8th Graders just finished an assessment on counting and clapping rhythms and are continuing to work on scales.
All groups are preparing for our upcoming Fall Orchestra and Chorus concert on Thursday, November 10th at 7pm at Twin Groves. Students must arrive at Twin Groves by 6pm. Please refer to the previously sent email for more information and details.
Just a reminder that students MUST bring home their instruments every day from school so they have it at home for practicing.

Upcoming Fire Drill
On October 17th, Twin Groves will be conducting a Fire Drill. Students will be evacuating the building during the drill. If the weather does not cooperate, we will reschedule the drill and communicate the rescheduled drill date.

The Lake County STEM for Girls Conference is less than a month away! This year's event is being held at WOODLAWN!!! Registration is OPEN and spots are still available! Visit lcstemforgirls.com or scan the QR code in the flyer below to register your child for this great event!! Join us for an awesome and engaging morning with STEM professionals from our area! (There are parent sessions to attend as well if interested!)
