What’s Happening at Twin?

PE: So In PE we just wrapped up our soccer unit, which was divided up by a rec league option or pro league option, student choice.  After our mini Fall break, we will begin a football unit, with the same options as soccer.  We will also continue our cardio days, and our class vs. class, vs. class competition, which by the way has been very close between all classes.  Please consider buying the PTO sweatpants and sweatshirts, as the weather is beginning to change.

Health:  In the first rotation in health, 6th graders will be diving into decision making and how to make good decisions.  We will look at the impact of their decisions on others and how they can improve their decision making.  Seventh graders will be investigating the three aspects of the health triangle.  We will first look into self-esteem and goal setting as we begin this first trimester.  Eighth graders will be looking into human sexuality this rotation.  We will be discussing the reproductive systems, contraception including abstinence, sexually transmitted infections, the “Safe Haven” law, sexting laws, and sexual harassment.

Art: Clay has begun for both 6th and 8th grade.  6th Graders are making lizards or frogs.  After spending time drawing 2D portraits our 8th Graders are molding clay busts.  7th Grade has begun abstract wood sculptures.  They have spent some time analyzing art and have chosen a specific famous artwork to incorporate into their wood sculpture.

Music: We are off and running and playing the guitar! We all started with learning or reviewing tabulature. Each grade level has been working on different material, while reviewing what we learned the year before. 6th grade is getting to know the guitar and how to read TAB with a focus on melody. 7th and 8th graders reviewed melody from TAB, but now we are on to learning how to play chords relating to harmony and melody. They will be accompanying themselves in different performances. Your children are doing a great job working on their musicianship on this instrument. Soon we will be off to the keyboard for the remainder of the trimester.

TASOL: TASOL has been busy this trimester! The 7th and 8th grade students are working on multiple recipes in the kitchens. They are learning new cooking techniques and familiarizing themselves with different utensils and cooking tools. Students will be continuing to work in the kitchens for the remainder of the trimester. They will also complete a mini unit on consumerism. Classes will look at how to make purchases using informative decision making procedures.  Sixth graders completed their own resumes in the career unit. They have started on their sewing projects which consists of a pillow with details using three different stitches.  Later this month, the 6th grade students will start working in the kitchens with introductory recipes.
