Principal's Message - September 16, 2022

9/16/22

Please welcome….Jamie Levine! We are excited to welcome Mrs. Levine to the Twin Groves Front Office. When you are in the office, please stop by and welcome her!

What’s Happening at TG?
Spanish- In 6th, 7th and 8th grade Spanish, we are working on getting to know each other using basic conversational skills.  The 6th graders are learning their first ¿Cómo te llamas? and ¿Cómo estás? while the 7th and 8th graders are reviewing.  The 6th graders will soon learn the alphabet and Spanish classroom commands, and the 7th and 8th graders will review several topics from previous years before we begin building on this foundation.  All three grades are participating in different activities to learn about the Spanish speaking countries in the world.  Can you name all 21?

Band- Band is getting into gear fast. We have full classes and the students are working hard. We have many beginners at every level, so we are currently doing a lot of review to catch these students up. We are working on scales in all classes, rhythms, and beginning to play band repertoire at the appropriate levels. We are also challenging our advanced students with the ILMEA music. The ILMEA audition videos are due to my inbox by Monday, October 3rd. The 8th grade students are working hard on the Stevenson fight song, “Victory,” which they will play during the halftime show on September 30.

All ensembles are meeting after school: 6th-Concert band - Mondays, 8th-Symphonic Band - Wednesdays, 7th-Wind Band - Thursdays. Rehearsals are very important and students need to be present. Tuesdays right now are for ILMEA students. On Tuesdays, October 4 and 11, we will have students come out that are interested in the pep band. We will play at 4 basketball games this fall. The music is fun and I encourage students to be a part of this activity. The jazz band has started and we have a very talented group this year. Students may still join the jazz band. Most of our music is on schoology. We also will be starting smart music in the next few band days.

Orchestra- Orchestra is off to a great start! 6th Grade has already had their first scale assessment and are starting to work on a new rhythm. 7th Graders are starting to work on shifting and 8th Graders are working on two octave scales. All grade levels have started working on rehearsal music. Students can find that music on Schoology to practice with at home. They should either print the music at home or put it into Notability.

As a reminder, all students need to bring their instruments to school every A Day AND their designated rehearsal day. Students also must bring their instruments home each of those days for practicing.

Please also make sure to review our Orchestra Concert/Events Calendar that was sent out this week!

We are asking that all students have their cell phones silenced and locked in their lockers from 7:43 AM to 2:30 PM.
If a staff member sees a cell phone out, we will ask the student to lock it in their locker. If they do not comply, the phone will be taken and sent to the office until the end of the day. Students can collect their cell phones from the office at 2:30 PM.
