What’s Happening at Twin?
PE: This rotation as the weather improves we plan to continue with our cardio days twice a week.  In the next few weeks the students will perform the pacer run which is a cardiovascular endurance test.  They have been running the pacer test for practice the last few months.  If weather permits
Our activities will be outside.  When we are inside we will run an all class Nitro ball tournament where all classes are together.  Again just a reminder that all students should leave a sweatshirt in their locker.  On May 18th the SHS PE leaders will come to Twin groves during PE class and
Will run a variety of activities and games.  This is to promote their PE leadership program.

Health: The sixth grade students are learning about the body systems and how they are interconnected. Students have gained insights about hygiene and how to keep their bodies clean.  Sixth graders have also learned about the physical, social, and emotional changes that happen when they go through puberty.  The seventh graders have been learning about drug education which includes addiction and treatment options. Students also worked on a research project to further enhance their knowledge of specific drugs.  The eighth graders have been studying about communicable and noncommunicable diseases.  Students have been learning about vaccines and how health insurance works.  Students also had a refresher course on SOS (Signs of Suicide) witht eh elp of our amazing social workers.

Music: Music students are working on several different projects at this time. All grades just finished the Guitar unit by performing and composing melodies on the instrument. 6th grade is working on a RAP project in Garageband. 7th Grade is just starting their Rhythm Unit with a program called Breezin’ Thru which we use for all grades ti improve our theory skills.  8th Grade is beginning their POEM/Garageband project where they read a poem and create an accompaniment to support their reading. And soon, we will all be move on to the keyboard.

TASOL: Students in 7th and 8th grade finished the career unit last week. Each student picked a career from one of the career clusters. They researched and presented their career to the class. We are moving forward to our sewing unit. All 7th and 8th graders have picked out a small 3D pillow to complete over the next few weeks. Sixth graders recently completed the career unit by creating their own resumes. They started working on their sewing projects which consists of a pillow with detail using three different stitches. Later this month, the 6th grade students will start working in the kitchens with introductory recipes.

Art: The 6th grade just finished drawing figures. We are starting to glaze the clay lizards and then we will begin making paper mache figures out of wire and paper mache pulp.  The 7th grade just learned about modern/abstract art and the principles of design.  We will use that information to influence our designs for the next clay and wood projects we are undertaking.  The 8th grade finished painting their quotes using their understanding of how formatting and typeface affects how a message is read.  We just spent time drawing facial features to prepare for creating a clay bust which we are starting next week.
