TGIF…Twin Groves it’s Friday!

Please be aware that Lake County has notified us that Old McHenry Rd. will be closed (from Hawthorn Woods to Rt. 22) to through traffic beginning Monday, November 8th and is scheduled to reopen on Sunday, November 21st.  This will likely impact traffic patterns for the duration of the closure.

In order for District 96 to maintain safety and health guidelines, each child will be strictly limited to 1 guest only. Guests will be provided seating in the gym that has been spaced for social distancing. Masks will be required.

The event will allow for live virtual access and will be recorded to later share with other family members or relatives unable to attend due to attendee restrictions. More information on how to access the live link will be coming soon.

What’s Happening at Twin Groves?

PE: During the month of November, we will start our BB unit.  During this unit, the students will choose between 3 on 3 basketball or scooter basketball.  The 3 on 3 is usually for students who play basketball or have more experience in basketball. Later in the month, we will begin our dance unit. There will be different criteria for each grade.  During this unit, they will be in groups and create a short routine that each group will perform.  Also during the month of November, we will continue our fitness days.  Our fitness days will now be inside and we will focus on muscular strength and endurance.

Health:  In the first health rotation, 6th graders will be diving into decision making and how to make good decisions.  We will look at the impact of their decisions on others and how they can improve their decision making.  Seventh graders will be investigating the health triangle and the three aspects of it.  We will first look into self-esteem and goal setting as we begin this first trimester.  Eighth graders will be looking into human sexuality this rotation.  We will be discussing the reproductive systems, contraception including abstinence, sexually transmitted infections, the “Safe Haven” law, sexting laws, and sexual harassment.

Art: We are finishing up our last projects!  It’s all about glazing right now.  All 3 grades are glazing clay projects. The 6th graders are glazing their lizards, the 7th graders are glazing coil pots, and the 8th graders are glazing their busts.  The display cases are going to be full!  Thanks for a great trimester!

Music: As we wind down the 1st trimester, all grades have finished their version of the composition unit. We used an online program called Noteflight to help us create our melodies. Now, all grades have shifted into playing guitar. We started by learning the parts of the guitar, and then focused on tablature for melodies. 6th grade will continue working on melody, while 7th and 8th grade will learn how to play chords. They will be singing and accompanying themselves with the guitar.

TASOL: We have been cooking in TASOL! Students in 7th and 8th grade have been very busy in the kitchens learning new skills and safety procedures. We have made some great recipes, including parmesan twists and fried rice. Sixth graders have finished their sewing projects. They have started working in the kitchens with smoothies, french toast and pizza. We will continue to cook for this last week. Take some time this fall and spend it in the kitchen with your students. They love to try new recipes and it is the perfect way to spend quality time with them. Trimester 2 will start on November 15. All TASOL students will rotate to Art.
